Default 4000 mile service

Checked the Odometer the other day and it said 4300 miles so I decided it was time the old girl got a service (it's almost year old now!).

I took it to a mechanic recomended to me by my IAM instructor (his garage was full of his own immaculate 2 strokes RD350's, TDR250's etc) and he seemed pretty good.

He inspected my tyres and we decided they needed replacing (once he explained what wear bars were) so I opted for 021's.

The bike has had a full service calipers off and cleaned, oil filter, oil, chain cleaned and tensioned and he also balanced the injection.

I paid £315 all told and the bike feels better than new to ride! The fuelling used to be very clunky and now it's just super smooth. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this done? and whether they found the bike nicer to ride after.

Ouch! TBH that's a lot of cash for a 4000 service, even including the tyres. It *should* feel better when it comes back. I find good mechanics make the bike feel like new, but will charge accordingly. Your average Joe won't make a blind bit of difference.
Why were the tyres changed so early? Most get 8k out of the D220.

Definitely seems a lot. I paid £170 for the 4000 as I had just bought it and wanted a complete service.

Getting a new rear tyre this weekend and 7500 service. Should be £275 for the service, tyre and tyre fitting.

Bridgestone BT-021's would be about ?180-200 fitted though? So about ?115-135 for the 4000 service sounds alright to me. Particularly if the bike now feels much better again.

aye the 021s were £200 I think so the service was £115.
We decided to change the tyres as i'd worn them quite a lot and the front was terrible on one side (knee down practice). it was the right decision as the bike is amazing again and I should definitely be getting more smiles per mile out of it...

So, on the SV I should do a 4000 mile service? Not a 3000 mile service? Btw, I have a 2001 SV and it has 22,000 miles on it.

Not sure about the older one. In my service book it's every 4000 miles but if you do it every 3000 the bike will be happier. Sure you can never change oil too much!

Oil changes can be made between 4000 and 6000 miles; modern oil is very good though, and even going over 6000 miles isnt tooooo bad ( I went over by a couple of hundred miles, lost track of the milage because my odometer is always on the "trip", not the overal milage)...its not like the oil stops lubricating after a specific interval I don't know about anyone else, but I always change the oil filter when I change the oil.

8k miles for D220's? :S i got 3500 out of the rear, pretty peeeee'd off at that but thats what i get for WOT out of every corner :P front one is over half way

its going to cost me ?250 from a suzuki main dealer to get the 4k service done (includes new sportmax or whatever the new D220 rear tyre is) still i've put that milage on in 2 and half months, so its probably needing a good service

the oil filter should always be changed with the oil. you wouldn't put sour butter on fresh bread! :P

I only managed 4k on the 220's and was glad to see the back of them!

2 Tyres and a full service was £315 but not from Suzuki. My mechanic did a full monty service on the bike oil filter, oil, brakes stripped and cleaned, chain cleaned and lubed and of course tyres fitted. Oh and he balanced the throttle bodies an the bike is now super smooth and just punches to the redline. Suzuki don't do that unfortunately, and if i read the service book right they dont even change the oil filter at 4K!!
