Default Pointy Fork Springs

Hiya,

I know this has been done to death, but I've done a search and got a bit confused - wondering if anyone can help...

I have upgraded the rear shock to a GSXR1000 unit and am mighty chuffed. The plan is to fit a GSXR front end, but it looks like it wont be for a while, so as I'm a little larger than the rider that the SV was intended for (16 and a half stone kitted up), and as the front springs have done 20k miles, I want to upgrade them. I have noticed that on the brakes the front does dive a lot.

Been looking at the various options:

1) Racetech - seem to be favourites as you can get the right spring rate for your weight, however are pretty pricey at around 90 quid
2) K Tech - dont seem to offer different weight springs, but a little cheaper at 65 quid
3) Hagon - although I cant find springs for the pointy, only the curvy, only 55 quid - although not sure about the suitability for a pointy.

I have a K3 faired by the way.

Just wondering what people think is best to go for? Is there a noticable difference between the 3 above? And as I'm not the 13 stone norm, will I benefit from ordering springs specific to my weight? From memory the racetech calc said around 0.9kg/mm is ideal for me...

Or are there any others around which I have missed?

Thanks,

BB.

Here's another suggestion.

I went for Maxton Spings and oil at about half a stone heavier than you. Magic. Best mod that I've done yet and all for very similar money. They did the same mod to a reporter's SV from Bike magazine Oct last year.

I've got Hagons and 15W oil in my curvy (you sure they don't do pointies? might sound silly but have you called them directly?), was a but stiff for the first week but now it's great. Stiffer, les diving, money well spent. I'm around 78kg think it's 12.2 stone(without kit).

you really should stop riding the bike without kit, you will get in trouble!

Just rung Maxton, springs are 60 quid, oil is 7.50 and carraige is around 8 quid, so inc VAT that equals 88 quid.

They confirmed that the springs are weight specific too - and take about a week from order to delivery.

No, haven't called them direct, but the pointies aren't listed on their website, and can find a pointy version from any of their on line suppliers....

it matters not who make the springs, just whether the spring rate and oil suit you. Phone Hagon.

Hagon do only 1 rate of progressives and don't ask you about your weight until you're on the subject of the rear shock, at least that's what they told me.
