plumber advice, plastic pipe
OK, I have always been a copper man with big blow torch, wire woool, flux and yorkshire fittings, so can I use plastic for central heating, I need to move a load of pipe (want to relocate the piping from ground->1st floors) and it would be easier if I could push some plastic through an existing boxed in section where the electrics run.
What do I need, assume screwfix catalog. pipe, cutter, joints etc.

Re: plumber advice, plastic pipe
I fitted my own central heating system and used plastic throughout, it's great to work with and you just hammer it to the joists with big cable clips. You cut it with a pair of £5 snips like scissors, very easy. The only bug is remembering to put the steel ferrules in the end of every pipe end you cut (for strength). I ended up taking a few joints apart cos I couldn't remember putting them in (always had done).
I'm sure the system has a shortened lifespan (if only due to the o-ring seals) but unless it's the house you're intending to end your days in it doesn't really matter does it? |

Re: plumber advice, plastic pipe
Better than copper ones. Only pricier. As said make sure you put the end in EVERY end of the pipe. Make sure you push it righ in the fittings. It has a life time warranty so no issue there. Much easier to work with and nice and tidy job too

Re: plumber advice, plastic pipe
My old dad is a traditionalist....bloody plastic a load a sh11ite, he says...lol
Hes a retire plumbing and heating engineer, and I'd far rather get a good job with copper from him, than plastic. I don't trust it. Plus if he does it i get a free plumbing lesson, '' how to do it proper like'' ...helped him with my central heating........... Good job I won't be stayiong in this house then....lol

Best of both worlds you can get copper with push fit couplings.

Re: plumber advice, plastic pipe
Very true, you would need to consider running some cables too if you choose the placcy pipes.

Re: plumber advice, plastic pipe
Bathroom and kitchen pipework are earthed directly back to main board, I have to admit that I had forgot about earths, but as this would be to replace the pipework between ground/1st floor central heating I don't think earths are a problem. Although I guess it would do no harm to strap a couple more in place whilst I am under floors.
Plenty of earth cable in garage so a few pence on clamps.
