Default Curvy Carburettor vaccum balancing

Hi all, just wondered those of you who do it yourselves, what type & make of guages/columns do you use/prefer, I'm thinking of getting a set, but I'm not sure which might be the best..... there seem s to be a lot of dial-type ones around, but I'm used to using me mates mercury columns, which have a much larger scale for more accurate fine-tuning......sadly he works abroad a lot now or I'd continue to use them.....
I once read an article on the ZZ-R international forum explaining how to make a set, I'll try to find it & post it on here if I do....

Cheers

I think this is one of the areas where you basically get what you pay for. Unless you want to make your own guages then buy the best that you can afford normally Carbtune or Davida. Don't think theres much difference between dials and column types apart from maybe columns being easier to read. I've heard that cheap guages can lack accuracy which is obviously not good.

I've got a set of Carbtune guages that I've had for years. They've paid for themselves many many times over and I would buy them again in a shot.

I personally use a Carbtune but I have been told the Accumate one is good to.

I've got the morgan carbtunes, you can make a mercury or oil based manometer, but not so durable. Drop me a PM and you can come round and use mine.

I got a carbtune one also (carbtune 3?? ), personally I think having metal rods and using gravity as the enemy is a bit crude and I don't like the way the little 'smoothing' pipe doesn't really fit tightly in the black pipe. I had to wrap tape round my joins to try and provide a better seal. Bearing in mind how crucial it is to getting as accurate reading as possible, having vacuum pipes that don't provide an airtight seal/leak out of the box - is pretty shoddy!! ... not impressed with Mr Carbtune personally ...

Mine are fine, the capillary damping tubes are a tight fit.

I made an electronic one, using a differential pressure transducer (rs components). It does suffer a little drift so it is necessary to check back to "zero" it occasionally. I'm sure an electronics expert could stabilise it, I live with the drift.

Also, as with any method using two scales, it's a good idea to swap the connections over to confirm you get the same readings the other way round when you've finished adjusting.

Cheap dial gauges are often troublesome. Carbtunes seem to be a good compromise of cost/effectiveness.

I've got Davida balancers....the rubber hoses came in rather handy once as an emergency....lol. They do the job fine
