Default tyre size question, advice please.

i understand that ard size is 120/60 front and 160/60 rear....

im ordering some dunlop roadsmarts tomorrow....

lookied at my bike and at the moment its a 120/70 on the front...

anyone know why this may be? will i notice much difference going back to standard?

anyone know of anything bad about the roadsmarts? ive read all the write ups on here and sounds good in the wet which is my main concern.

thanks

120/60 is standard-but 120/70 will give more accurate speedo reading if i remember reading here before

I've just put a set of roadsmarts on mine, still scrubbing in. I chose them after riding a mates bike with them, really impressed, but I have got no comparision.

They've won all the recent media tests so thats good enough for me.

Yeap, 120/60 and 160/60 are the OEM sizes. They are also the only 'insurance friendly' sizes to run with too as Suzuki do not approve any other tyre size.

You can run with a 120/60 on that wheel too, the SV handles better also.

cool thanks all.....im gonna go with the standard 120/60 front and 160/60 rear....

it sounds strange that you get a more accurate odometer reading with a bigger tyre than is recommended by the manufacturer!!! bleedin mental!! lol....

on a different note.....ive seen people post that they paid around £175 ride in ride out for these tyres....
ive called fowlers....they dont do it but recommended protyre...so i called protyre who quoted me ....wait for it.....£249.47 with balancing....

so what i have to do is buy them from cabot tyres for £176 the pair....(they dont fit them) and pay my bike guy £15 per wheel to fit and balance (not loose wheels he sort all that out) so a total of £206.89...seems above average compared to what most people are paying on here....

and whats this "scubbing in"....could someone explain please?.......

When tyres are new, they're coated with a film to preserve them whilst they're on the shelf. Scrubbing in is the process of wearing away the protective film over the 1st 100 miles or so, during which you should avoid excessive acceleration, braking, banking, riding in the wet, grids, road paint, diesel, ice, snow etc etc.

After the film has worn away, you can concentrate on reducing your chicken strips

I paid Gupa P £188 for them fitted to loose wheels. They wanted 1 hour labour IIRC for ride in, ride out.

Have a look ebay, you can get them cheaper than that for just the tyres mail order.

'Scrubbing in', is wearing them in as they are shiney and slippery when new. Takes ~100 miles. Not sure exactly how you're meant to do it, I'm just taking it easy and am about 50 miles in.
