Good dog trainer needed

OK constructive help needed am at the end of it now with Samson.

Since my last post he has been pretty good, ideal dog. But tonight he let me down again and had me in tears again and now I just am totally fed up.

He was running on field, been running mad for about 30 mins, just about to get him on his lead and he sat down, saw another 2 dogs and that was it, ignored my commands and ran like he was homed in on them, he then just ran cirlces round them barking. I ran over to him but he wouldnt come near me. Then a rather large man with a staffy pitbull walked past and shouted 'i'd break his bl00dy back', sam then turned, saw the pitbull and did the same, straight over to him and circled him.

Luckily I had mate with me who had 2 dogs too, as the pitbull guy threatened to kick Sam my mate went over and stood up to him for me. I was in tears trying to get the blasted mutt back.

I just feel like I can't cope with him when he is like this. Financial issues mean I can't afford training at the mo but I feel like I have no choice. I can't let him disobey me, he won't hurt anyone or dogs but he may get hurt by a dog or their owner if tonight was anything to go by.

What should I do, rehome him or stick with him.

He knew he had done wrong, his little face as he looked in my eyes on the field

Does anyone know of a good trainer that will do one to one sessions around the Staffs area, will travel within reason. I'd rather go off recommendations than pick one out of the paper. Other than that I need a loving home for Samson.

Shell, whilst I can't offer anything constructive in terms of correcting Samson's behaviour, keep me posted with how things go.

We've looked after friends dogs in the past, and have the advantage of vast open areas of land to walk on without any other animals (or farmers with crops to be destroyed).

If you need a short break from him to pull yourself together, I'm sure we could sort something out with Samson staying at ours on a temporary basis.

Seriously though he isnt taking notice of you because he thinks he is in charge.

Asics Gel Kayano are pretty good. Not sure how small sizes thay come in though. You might have to settle for some Nikes

Just what I need when I have had a 6ft summat bloke about to kick my dogs head in and me in tears torn with what to do 'thanks' !



Baph - thanks hun I may take you up on it, even if it is to see how I feel not having Samson around the house. How I would feel if he was rehomed.

Mark - trust me I know he is the pack leader, I thought I had done some good work with him and changed all that but obvioulsy not

I cant feel any more down with the thought of loosing my baby. I lost Meggy his 'girlfriend' in my relationship breakdown and managed to keep hold of Sam through that, he got me thtough my accident bless.

Accepted, I am a bit angry with me and Sam. This only just happened so suppose I am wound up. Thought your response was to bloke wanting to kick Sam, which in fact scared me to death cause the bloke was huge !!

There's a link to find trainers in your area. It will take work, it won't happen overnight but if you can afford at least 1 private lesson, it's worth it.

Keep him on a long line at the moment, so you have control. I hope you can work something out, but any good trainer will need to see him in situ, and where the problem is, and how you both relate to each other. PLEASE do not use Barkbusters or any of those places that charge £400, the adpt website only allow qualified trainers and behaviourists, there are so many fakes that have seen the dog whisperer and think they are trainers, and it can make things worse. I've seen too many dogs destroyed through bad advice.

The very fact you are asking for help is testament to the commitment you have for him, I'm sure you will get there, you are a great dog owner. I'm sorry you had this happen today, it's crap. x
