Is this carb icing?
A quick and often asked question..
Fricking cold this morning, but bike started and ran fine. After 10 mins though, every time I let it idle it would stall. Even with lazily slow downchanges. There is a misfire, but that is constant and unaffected by the weather. The stalling is only when its very cold. It was fine this afternoon. Carby icey? |

Re: Is this carb icing?
Aye, does sound like it... Only thing to mention is that carb icing can only happen when it's cold but still a bit humid, on really cold or cold and clear days there's not enough water in the air to freeze in the carbs. The best test for carb icing is to wait til its really bad, turn off, wait 2 minutes and start again- if it's gone, then it was almost certainly carb icing, and now the ice has melted.

Re: Is this carb icing?
Maybe choke plungers too. Lot of wet and salt to get into the cables.

Re: Is this carb icing?
A fuel additive such as Silkolene Pro FST or I found running my bike on premium petrol such as Shell Optimax sorted it out as well.

Re: Is this carb icing?
I have a mixture of shell optimax (that ferrari stuff) and 100ml of the Pro FST and I have no trouble at all.
I was having the same effects as your bike |

Re: Is this carb icing?
Been riding around this afternoon trying to get some Pro FST, nobody sells it!
Tank full of BP ultimate is the best I could do, results tomorrow! (fingers crossed) |

Re: Is this carb icing?
Just out of interest..... would cold temps drop your Idle speed - in a more air to fuel type thing?
(No idea if it would just curious....) |
