Thumbs up E39 BMW 528i SE for sale - £1500

Anyone fancy it? My E39 5 series is up for sale. 1996 on a P, utterly reliable, everything works. Pictures below.

Yes, I know the reg is visible, but it's visible to everyone I drive past every day, so I don't particularly care

Text below copied from eBay:

Quote:
It has approximately 117000 miles, a good amount of service history including main dealer servicing to 60000 miles and independent thereafter to 104000. There's a bunch of old MOTs, invoices, and bills with it too. When I bought the car with 112000 miles I immediately changed the wiper blades, plugs, oil and filter, air filter and pollen filters. There is no cambelt to worry about on these as they're chain driven cams. The handbrake shoes were replaced when I bought the car, and it had a couple of new rear shocks and springs for its MOT in October.
There are three green bars on the service indicator still showing, which would suggest the car won't want another service for about 8000 miles. In the interest of honesty, I will mention that it could do with one new tyre on the nearside rear. The car drives extremely well with no faults aside from a handbrake that isn't the best. It passes MOTs with the handbrake as it is, but I never use it - why would you when you can use Park! The car has also (within the last 500 miles) had a replacement ABS sensor to the nearside front. The automatic gearbox works in both manual and automatic modes without a problem, shifting gears smoothly with kickdown working as expected. Acceleration is smooth as silk thanks to the straight six motor!
Everything works including the climate control being cold, cruise control works, parking sensors work, even the rear electric sunblind works. I have fitted an Auxiliary Input to the stereo allowing you to use your iPod or MP3 player in the car. Common faults on these cars are that the headlight adjusters break, but I have manufactured replacements which allow the headlights to be adjusted correctly. There are no leaks from the sunroof, another common fault, and there are no pixels missing from the onboard computer display.
The leather is in very good condition all round with no rips or tears, some very slight wear marks on seams if you get really close but you'd not notice unless looking closely. All electric windows go up and down smoothly and all one-touch features work.
It also has 18" M5 wheels fitted, which have slight curbing, but have been like that since I bought it. Overall the bodywork is in very good condition with only a few minor marks here and there.
One question which is always asked - what about MPG. I get between 24 and 29mpg when I'm using the car around town, but on a decent run the car is easily capable of returning MPG well into the thirties. On the way back from Scotland at Christmas, I averaged 36.1mpg over 280miles.

Too right. Why would anyone spend £1500 on something like a crappy old Fiesta when you can have one of these? Mental.

Insurance really isnt that bad (I'm 22 and fully comp and its only 100 or so more than a mid sized hatch), spares can be had fairly easily from breakers and the internet and while the cost of running is fairly high in terms of fuel and consumables its really not as bad as a lot of people think.

Plus, its like driving you're living room around (in a good way), the straight 6 sounds good when pushing on and it can even hustle in the bends.

Sorry for the slight thread hijack but I love my 5 series and want everyone else to feel the same love. Some one buy this car before I buy another

Bearing in mind the fact that it never goes wrong, the only spares one needs are consumables. Oil, oil filters, brake pads, discs, etc cost about the same as any other family saloon.

Alright, fuel consumption's not diesel-style, but it'll still return 30mpg pretty much all the time unless you're literally only using it around town like I do.

Insurance is no more expensive than for most other saloon cars you can buy for the same price, as it's older. It's also more secure and less likely to get nicked, and they generally fare better in an accident than flimsy euroboxes would.

What is it with people? I have this car up on eBay as well, and in the ad it states 'No offers under £1500'. So I have this guy ring me today who says 'So is £1500 the lowest you'll take?'. I say 'Yes' and he says he'll come and take a look later.

Fast forward a couple of hours, and here he is on my doorstep. Looks around the car, I take him for a spin in it, he proclaims interest.

'Will you take £1300 for it?' he says.

Jeebus.
