Default Part ex value?

hey all

i just enquired as to the part ex value of my 55 K4 pointy in yellow with 2500 on the clock against a VFR800 i had noticed for £2700. the bloke reckons at most he would offer £1800 for the sv in part ex!! is this the general value from a stealer or was he hoping i was drunk when he told me?

would private be the way to go as i was hoping for more £2500. no mods done except fender extenda and rear hugger and no marks on it at all except for a scatch on the edge of the fuel filller cap.

cheers

sounds about right, £2500 may be a bit much for your bike? (although the low milage and rare colour may help)

what year was the VFR, and where from?

1999 in red 20k from motorcycles co (i think) in surrey. i forget the exact name. its on the trader. was a thought but not if stealers are only gonna cough up £1800. may as well stick with the sv which isn't giving me any grief or nowt anyway.

I just got my sk5 with 1100 miles on the clock for 2800 from a dealer so the offer sounds about right.

Private sale would be the way to go but the market is dropping a bit at the moment.

That would be an early FI model, good bike but TBH your SV has same performance and you know all about it. I'd stick with the SV.

yeah thinking about i it would be a waste of time and like wise hovis has said the bike is bearly run and i still really enjoy it. just was looking at the potential of doing a euro trip with the misses so looked at a cheap VFR so she was more comfy and luggage perhaps may be easier.

Part ex "values" are a complete illusion and depend entirely on what you are pxing against and what the dealers margins are on the newer bike. Thus you would get a lot more in px for your bike against a new VFR at full list price than a ten year old one with little profit margin on it for the dealer. The only true value for your bike is what someone will pay for it in a cash sale.

I wouldn't swap you SV just because of one potential Euro trip. The SV will be up to it, people have gone round the world on worse bikes! If you enjoy the trip and want to do lots more, then you can perhaps upgrade, but for now at least I'd stick with the bike you know and trust.
