Default Credit crunch? What credit crunch?

So after my car deciding to be tempremental again a couple of weeks ago, we decided it was time to go and get a new(er) one.

First issue, funds. Need to borrow a bit, but people can't get credit right? Shopped around for the best available deals, then made an application online. Was asked to call for a decision, where they immeadiatley tried to get me to nearly double what I actually wanted. Was also "pre approved" for a credit card on top of this, and the application form was sent out with the loan agreeement.

Better check this loan won't affect being able to remortgage later this year if needed when the fixed rate ends. Plug our joint incomes into the "what you can borrow" calculator online and no, we can borrow a further £130k, or a grand total of 5 times our income.

So off to look for cars at the weekend. Smaller 4*4 is what we're after, and given dealers can't sell anything at the moment, bargains should be about. 4 cars located within budget/mileage/age/size/reliability requirements in a 50 miles radius, so off we go. All four had been sold in the 24 hours before we viewed them. Every garage we visited seemed to be crawling with customers.

Credit crunch or media driven hype?

Exactly. I've done the sums to make sure I'm within affordability given foreseeable worst case scenario. Good job I'm not a sucker for a cheesy sales pitch.
