Top Yoke Removal

Hello.
I'm trying to repair my bike after some git tried to nick it, but i can't get the top yoke off. They jammed something in the ignition but the steering lock is still on and is stopping the top yoke from sliding off.

Please can anyone offer some advice on how to get the yoke off so i can replace the ignigition barrel and yoke?

NM- bad idea not thought through before posting

see if you can access the two torx bolts that hold the ignition barrel on under the toke yoke first, i know you can't do it on a pointy but you may be able to on a curvy. if you can remove the ignition barrel with the front end in place this will save you a lot of work. otherwise the only other way i can think is to put the bike on a front and rear paddock stand remove the front wheel and forks, then undo the steering nut on the top and remove the lower yoke. this should allow you to move the top yoke forward and it will come off.

Cheers Geoffrey. I'll give it a go. I dont have front stand so if i cant get to the torx bolts i may have to take the angel grinder to the yoke (its cracked and i have a replacement ;0)

Yeah Geoffreys got it.

Does anyone know the size of the tamperproof torx bolt for the ignition barrel? i dont want to have to buy a whole set of them if i can just buy the one i need.

halfords 3/4 professional ones fit perfect.. its a T40

They're quite tricky to get to on the pointy even with the front fairing removed. Also red-loctite'd in I think so they'll be quite stiff to remove.

If Halfords haven't got the bits, you can get a little set from Machine Mart if there's one near you, think it's only about £8 or so.
