Keep an eye on it LW and if it becomes red, inflamed or starts to stink go see your GP for a quick course of anti biotics.
thanks claire, the photo is of my own ham-fisted dressing attempt being removed

they put that inadine on it an then covered it with a similar type of thing

i'll be watching it closely for any sign of infection for sure!!!

Damage to casing looks superficial to me Wolfie , they may repair that bike from the looks of it . If the centre of the casing was dinged right in they wouldn`t take a chance on it being good but I bet a pound to a pinch of Horsepooh that somebody would get that from a breakers yard and have it back on the road in under a day .

Nice "Snick" on the X-Ray there laddo

Drew found the rest on the case inside the engine in bits, so if it was spinning when it smashed it might have done some damage

If it looks OK i'd be tempted to look at buying it back and seeing what I can do...

Ouch! However, judging by the damage to the sign post you were lucky for not hitting it.

Frankly, I'd say it is probably a fair bet that the engine is pretty much gone, don't bother buying it back and move on. Mind you, it did look mostly OK from one of the photos until you started showing the real damage.

GWS.

Are the edges of the remaining pieces all chewed up or do they just look like they were snapped off clean ? , Rick bought a GSX1400 with similar damage to it and that was fine after a flush out and test .

but i did hit it... or more accurately; head butted it

just realised that the coils you can see inside the engine are the stator, the flywheel is the bit that spins and there's not enough room for any of the bits of casing to have got between it and the casing, i suspect, as badger just mentioned, it could be a flush and rebuild with a new stator/flywheel. ECU didn't record any errors

ECU doesn't have a sensor for bits of alloy flying round the engine

But, worst case scenario is it's chomped some bits through the gearbox. Or, the impact to the rotor has bent the crank.

Flush the oil, see if it looks straight when you spin it over (wit plugs out).
