Default Sickening!

I generally don't watch much TV or read newspapers so quite often miss news items.

I came across this one today and it completely sickened me.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8038249.stm

Other than the treatment of the animals, I'm sickened by the potential punishment (or lack of it) that will be given.

yeah, the poor creatures were found last year. Remember it well. Last week they got charged for it( I think) thank god. Its not the first time the guy has been in trouble for neglecting horses, but for the entire family to be involved in such a sickening act, for monetry gain I might add, is absolutely disgusting.

It seems that cruelty/violence towards animals is somehow seen as being more acceptable than if carried out against a human being. I suppose that I'm being slightly hypocritical here as I eat animals, but wouldn't eat a human. (Hope people understand what I'm trying to say)

Aside from he obvious, the truly sickening part of this report is this:-

"The District Judge in this case has had to consider whether animals such as these, destined for slaughter, should be protected under the same animal welfare act which domestic owners need to adhere to."

Forgive me, but animal rights should apply to ANY animal, regardless of it's use or destination. We strictly govern in this country the treatment of the chickens, pigs, cows, sheep etc that we breed for slaughter to use for meat...........why the hell should this district judge think that he needs to take into account the fact that these horses may have been destined for slaughter. Frankly, who cares? I don't. According to this district judge then, can we forget about the housing and handling standards of all animals destined for slaughter because they matter less than those used for somestic purposes???

Utter boll0cks IMHO. The whole case is sickening. I say that from the perspective of someone who has had my own horses, ridden all my life, worked for a vet and attended animal cruelty cases on a regular basis as a teenager. To top that off, in 2007, my beautiful fleabitten grey 15.2hh mare Teasle, the kindest, softest horse you could ever wish to know was stabbed in her head in her stable. I had to sit on the floor with her head in my lap while the vet stiched her up (also had a broken nasal bone) so I have a real hatred for people that can do this!!!

A horse needs to have been deprived of proper food for literally months on end before it will collapse or die. Horses are different from humans, they can survive on a lot less with most breeds and so for this case to have many horses that have died, the old "I couldn't afford food this month" cherry will not wash. The family is a total disgrace, but will no doubt not get anywhere near the punishment they deserve!

"slight derail alert

My mare was put to sleep last year because her old age was causing her too much pain and so the kindest thing was done, but this thread has made me want to remember her, so I will scan a picture into this thread tomorrow.

Feel free, I have no issues with that, and if anyone else does, then hard luck to them.

There's little info there though. I appreciate the work the RSPCA do; but I don't half hate the way they launch lawsuits for publicity. They've done some terrible things recently, that anyone who has donated money to them would have to seriously think over.

If it is as bad as it sounds, then these people deserve some proper jailtime. Those directly responsible, and those 'in the know'.

nothing sickens me like animal cruelty not even human suffering purhaps because humans can usualy influence there situation/surroundings whereas animals cannot. It makes me ashamed to be part of the human race when i see things like this. peoples ability to be so evil never fails to amaze me.

I'm not a big fan of the RSPCA to be honest, I think that there are many smaller charities that do a better job with a fraction of the income. Like all charities the RSPCA is suffering from paying large salaries to high ranking officials.

The family in question will no doubt get very little jailtime, if any. They'll probably be banned from keeping horses. I just wonder sometimes how much suffering you have to inflict on an animal before the courts actually lock someone up for the period that they deserve.
