Hi all, haven't been here for a while, been too busy custom painting. But finally now had some spare time to carry on with the 'fighter project. Thanks to Sideshow#36 for the GSXr rear shock which is now sitting neatly on my back end, and to toadie for the top yoke. The yoke has been modified and polished...then I got bored polishing and scuffed it up and sprayed it!! Top and bottom yoke are now satin black, as are the subframe and forks. Had a friend custom make some brackets so my side by side headlights are now over/under..look the bollox too. Finished polishing the frame tonight..wish I'd never started that!! Wheels are in my studio for custom painting, panels are gonna be prepped next week but I still haven't settled on a design yet. Got to put the stubby Beowulf can on this weekend. Got some great risers from Moore Speed, quality for 40 quid! Her's some pics (if they work) ... I'll update as I go along, its only been in bits for about 2 years!!!

Go ahead. Sanded all the paint off the top yoke with 240 wet n dry, then scuffed it a bit flatter with 600 wnd, was left with some deep scratches but no worries, use a good etch primer on to the bare ally, only a couple of coats, let it flash off (dry) for 5-6 minutes (not too heavy coats) then hit it with a good quality high build primer, go to your local bodyshop supplier cos halfords **** doesn't cut it, 3-4 good coats of high build primer and let it dry over night. this should fill in the scratches. When its dry scuff it flat with 600wnd or red scotchbrite, and use a satin black top coat (spray can again!! You'd be amazed at the finish you can get with good quality rattle can paint, but you have to get it from a bodyshop supplier and get the best quality rattle can they suggest, the stuff I use is £15 a can, as opposed to some at £4-£5 a can which are mostly thinners!!) I did 4-5 coats of satin to have a solid finish.
Bottom yoke is steel, so I cleaned it with brake cleaner, then silicon remover then scuffed it with red scotch as its quite knurled, the scotch pad gets in the knurling to get a key for the paint. Put 1 coat of etch, 4 coats of high build, and 4 coats of satin. looks the bollox, I'll put up another pic in a few days of the black forks!!! I've attached a pic of my custom made headlight set up. |

That bracket looks amazing. Are you keeping the standard forks?

Gotta laugh at the streetfighter bits in pic with martial arts book
![]() For tough finish use PJ1 engine paint and cook it when it's dry, it's well tough stuff.

Interested to see how the forks come out, I want a pair of black ones for mine, I'd like to get hold of the K7 GSXR 750 ones, but I'd have to have bespoke fork-yokes made (I think!) to keep it "non-clip-on" handle bars.
Like the headlamps, it's gonna look different, but in a good way!! |

Weld risers to GSXR top yoke, or just drill holes and bolt through. Though there are some nice trick top yokes out there.
