Just wondered if anyone else uses these items (not the rain suit these are the separate jacket and trousers ~£40 each) I have used them twice in the rain now and although the trousers do exactly as they say they will ie keep you dry the jacket leaks like a sieve!
I have been soaked to the skin this morning from a leak through the elbow and shoulder and this is the second time in 3 days as I needed to check if the first time I just hadn't done something up (not that there is anything to do up as such!) Just looking for anyone else with experience of this gear as Oxford have offered a full replacement if I return to the original retailer (unfortunately I purchsed off Ebay but looks like the seller is ok to handle the exchange for me (brand new with tags etc. he ordered the wrong size!) but obviously if anyone else has experienced leaking jackets it may be these are not cut out for the rain which would make the 100% waterproof claim a bit ![]() |

Yes Nictry
I have exactly the same issue. Bought off ebay - trousers are fine but jacket leaks near elbow / shoulder. Supplier was fine and sent a replacement all new with tags, however, same result. I have now had 2 sets with same problems - something is going wrong with the quality checking at oxford |

Well I didnt end up sending mine back as TBH after postage etc I figured I might as well just take the £30 hit. I do use the trousers still and they are fine, I ended up going to Hein Gericke and spending £130 on a decent w'proof jacket with 2 yr guarantee and it hasn't leaked yet. Needless to say won't be buying/recommending Oxford to anyone and their strict policy on not replacing any product that is not the original owner makes me think we are not the only ones to suffer from poor QC

this thread shall be exhumed..
ive had a bone dry jacket for about a year and had no trouble whatsoever i wear it over my textile jacket and as such the textile has never been wet or damp. the bd jacket is also great at keeping out the winter cold never had the trousers but luckily i ordered a pair yesterday so hopefully they should match the quality of the jacket matt |

Even the most expensive waterproofs will leak eventually. The cheaper they are the sooner they will leak. Its usually caused by the waterproof membrane/coating deteriorating and cracking where it bends alot (elbows, knees etc) The tape sealing on the seams can leak too after a while. If I stayed completely dry, in rain, in a 2 year old £300 goretex jacket, I would be suprised.

Goretex and similar products are breathable and waterproof - this is much harder to achieve as the fabric can't be impermeable. These will eventually wear out but as goretex provide a 5 year guarantee, if mine leaked after 2, it'd be going back.

I used to work in retail customer services and was a 'Gore Consultant'
![]() Goretex doesn't have a 5 year guarantee as far as my memory serves (its been a year or two), but it has a lifetime guarantee. If the rest of the jacket is in good condition however it's leaking somewhere specific, it should go back to Gore through the original retailer. If the jackets in shreds, or not looked after, it'll be rejected. If found to be leaking, Gore should replace it through the retailer, or give credit to the original value of the jacket. I doubt if it's any different for motorcycles jackets, and if you're having problems, I would mention the above to your retailer ![]() |
