hi all, i have a 2000 sv650s recently purchased..dont know why i waited so long.
occasionally i seem to be getting a missing/backfire from the carbs? is this due to an air leak? or is it just a characteristic of the bike, it is only very occasional. as i have not long had bike and two small children i have not had the time to have a poke about and see what kind of tinkering has been done . |

it does it when i am at about 3-4 grand but putting throttle on, like i say only occasionally. it has a scorpion can on it so maybe jetting issue?

Mine backfires a little under closed throttle on the over-run, normal as they all seem to do it. Adds to character.
Maybe get it rejetted/dynojetted and see. ![]() |

Do the revs drop when it backfires and then pick up shortly after?
Sounds like an electrical problem. My bike has an intermittent fault similar to yours, but it's much more violent ![]() Check for any chafing of the loom against the frame. Common areas are headstock and under the rear fairing pannel on the left hand side. Also check your sidestand switch and kill switch are working properly. |

cheers all, will investigate inside and see if there are any sparky things going on, like i say its very occasional, so if nothing obvious will just have to live with it!

Mine used to misfire now and again. Could hear a pop from under the tank.
Ran great until I sold it. Plugs always looked fine too. It might have been and air leak somewhere near the carbs/airbox |
