My SV has mismatched wheels after its GSXR front end. The front is bright orange and the rear is charcoal coloured, which looks a bit odd on a green bike.
What's best get them powdercoated or painted? Haveheard stories of wheels ovalling when they're baked with powedrcoat, paint chips easier though

+ 1. I wish I had powder coated mine TBH. 10-15 coats of spray paint and they have come up a treat. One small knock and they already have chips on them. Go with the powder coat route for sure! It's not that expensive to powder coat and for the time involved it will probably work out less than painting them consdering the amount of prep and paint involved if you do it yourself. |

Possibly an ignorant question- is there any kind of hard wearing lacquer that can be used on top of the paint to withstand the abuse?

Had one powder-coated for my old GSXR front end, the finish was fantastic and it took a few knocks while i was learning how to build up the front end. Recommend it over spraying, it only cost me £40 and was worth that alone to save the hassle of spraying!!!

+1 by the time you buy paint, undercoat, wet & dry. then the hassle of doing it.. it costs about the same as powder coating. you get a much better and more durable finish with powder coat.. just remember that you will need new bearings if you get it powder coated, you will also have to strip old bearings out and take the tyre off before you take it to get done...

You know those paint chip protection things you can get, would it be possible to simply buy one large sheet of that and cut to size?

Powdercoat every time!
Even after 60,000+ miles ours looked as good as new.
