Default finance question

if I want to sell my SV and have some finance outstanding the easy option is to chop it in against new bike. dealer though is offering £1800 against a street tripple / R. Not sure though about this as with cars you have more bargaining power without a trade in. So where do I stand selling it private with some finance left on it.

Could I just get buyer to pay off remainder - via telephone call and give the cash for whats left?

You can do what you said...but it complicates things! Would be easier for you to pay off the finance yourself really, then sell.

Some people would do what you say and pay the remainder...I for one wouldn't go near a bike or car for that matter which had outstanding finance.

Why not phone the finance company in the morning and ask them what their recommendation is?

You and the buyer do it together. Get all the details from the finance company at the time of sale then the buyer chaps over the balance to the finance company and gives you the rest. If the buyer is also using finance to buy your bike then his finance company will do it for you.

All depends on your finance contract. My 0% from suzuki was actually an unsecured personal loan from Black Horse, so I can do whatever I want with the bike.

Same here - just to be safe though when I sold the bike I paid off the finance first and had the confirmation. (Although the buyer didn't seem to care!)

I'd suggest an HPI check. My SV was financed with Black Horse on an 'unsecured' personal loan, but they (do a search on the internet, it's well documented) put a marker against the vehicle anyway. Apparently they have a habit of doing this.

Also worth searching the .Org... there are a number of results, but I've picked my posts out on this subject:
