Has anyone on this forum bought any of the front brake discs (or do you personally know someone who has) available from Hong Kong & China via Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-FRONT-BRAK...3A1%7C294%3A50 or similar for other makes & models of bike? I've not done too well in the second hand Ebay brake disc lottery and desperately need another reasonably priced alternative. Thanks in advance (so don't let me down or ![]() |

These look like a knock off of Galfers, but the first question I ask concerns materials (there are many grades of stainless and only some are suitable for brakes) and machine tolerances. Who knows, they might be okay, but Chinese made stuff seems to be just another lottery.
Just having a quick look at Galfers bought in the US and shipped they would cost me around 20% more than these Chinese disks. That is a price I would pay. BTW, do you use second hand pads too? ![]() Cheers |

I've fitted a number of rear discs from these sources (normally wavey or razor), which were ok although lifespan could well be limited, I don't think I'd fit fronts though, you tend to get what you pay for

I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, brake disc shaped scrap metal that if you tried to sell in this country you'd be in court and dragged over the coals in minutes. And rightly so.
The rear's alright, but a front must have the right amount of float and be free of internal stresses to avoid rattling, warping, cracking... These don't. They'll be OK if you're building some tarty show bike that never gets ridden, but for a proper bike; nah. And who mentioned galfers? Galfers are as bad! With those f*ckin things you definately don't get what you pay for. A local guy around here actually had one SNAP after 3 months commuting. (5k). This was on GSXR in February, so you can hardly stress the brakes with no grip... If I wanted some trick brake rotors, I would get hold of some OEMs that have been surface ground, stress relieved and hung on with some semi floating rivets. Cheaper than galfers too.

You damned well know who!
FWIW, over the years I have bought a few sets of Galfers for various bikes and have never had a problem with them. If failures with Galfers were a problem then the company would have been sued under by now. These days I use disks from an Aussie company that, surprise surprise, produces yet another Galfer knock off. Cheers ![]() |

Saving on Chinese discs ~ £30 each
Value of neck ~ £ ? You do the sums!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Anything made in china is rubbish.
Anyone know why scrap metal prices went through the roof? China were buying as much as they could get and then making 'products' out of it then selling it back to us! All they did was took our scrap we didn't want and sold us scrap we did want.

How much Chinese made stuff is in your house? Not all of it is rubbish, it's just made down to a price. When you are buying stuff from there in bulk you need to be over there making sure their quality control is up to scratch, with regular b0llockings they can actually make good kit!

It would be interesting to be able to stress test a set of these discs to see if they're actually as bab as people seem to think they will be. I'm not volunteering to test them on my bike though.

I have been thinking about how hard it would be to make a dyno drum to bolt discs to. Spin it up to simulate the energy dissapation of slowing from say 150mph and see what breaks (ba-dum-tsch).
I need a bigger shed...
