Default Motorway or A Roads?

Well I am off camping for a couple of days on my own mid week in the Lake District.
Now I can run straight up the M6 from Crewe to Windermere, or take the scenic route up the A6, what do people think?
I have got all day Wednesday, but the weather forecast looks a bit bleak, what do people think?

If the weather's nice I'd avoid the Motorways and take the A roads

If the weather's crap I'd avoid the Motorways and take the A roads

I'd do both, e.g. do you want to take the thick end of an hour getting thro' Preston, or over an hour thro' Warrington or Manc?

Motorways are boring but i'd rather use them to get around big towns/cities, and be in the bar a couple of hours early.

its boring enough on motorways let alone if its raining (turns into a tedious task rather than enjoyment)

take the A roads, that way you can stop and take a break when you want.. after all you are on holiday...

+1 on using them to bypass big city's, that is unless you actually want to visit big city.

i used a roads instead of the motorway in my recent trip to north Wales (i say that but there were two short 10 min stints on them), I managed to get there 2 hours ahead of the schedule plus i had a whole load of fun.
