My goodness, i remember having one of those when I was younger, IIRC my handle was something boring like "little blue eyes" as you can see I was as imaginative with names as I am today

(sorry dont know where to get one from though, although they must be around as truckers still use them day to day!)

funnily enough I wa into this many moons ago, but hen it was illegal and you had to get sets from the states (where my forum name originated from actually), but when they swapped it and made it legal, you really did get some idiots on there.

Sorry can't be much help, I know Tandy used to do legal ones, but they have been gonefor sometime now.

Cheers Mark.

Try boat equipment shops. You can get waterproof ones! They do get very expensive though.

Just do a google search. I looked into getting one a few months back when I was going to Wales for a few days offroading with some mates but it just got all to complicated. Talk of different aerials, ground links etc etc.

Get a 6" magmount, and a 6' whip ariel. Pick up folk from a good distance.Used to have it in the wagon, but after the work started sharing my truck out with 5 drivers, and the fact that it went over to Ireland a lot, by other drivers, I removed my gear from the unit. Still lying on my workshop shelf, including a 40 channel CB radio, and mounting brackets. Also an external speaker, and mounting bracket.Live in Hamilton m8. Don't think I'll ever use the gear again.

PM me if you're interested in taking the kit off my hands m8. Can drop it off to ya, and fit it into your Landie for ya too..

Once fitted - REMEMBER NOT to DRIVE INTO Hamilton car park approaching Quarry street from the post office side... my dad drove the van down to the train station car park once to go the bank, forgot the ariel was still up, and ripped out half the bank of scotland's phone wiring. All he heard was a clatter because the ariel got pulled off the van roof. Oops.....

**** ALWAYS CHECK YOUR VEHICLE HEIGHT - ESPECIALLY AFTER FITTING A 6' CB ARIEL ****

Plus - the wife will not even notice the big tall ariel, and drive into East Kilbride shopping centre. Bye bye ariel, hello scratched roof....

wow!! they still going..?

i had one of them back in the day, in the 25 minutes they were popular, early 80's i believe.

My handle was "Floyd" after the mighty Pink Floyd. I had a Harrier CBX. Good grief i'm dragging this from the back of some long banished memory...!!

Try Tandy.

oh, hang on.

No idea. thats the level of my input....

Actually its Maplins now

I have a Midland one somewhere in my garage - you would probably want a new ariel, but if you want it I could be persuaded to part with it quite cheaply - £20 should do the trick.

This of course is reliant on me finding it, and it still working.

Actually I used to use mine in Aberdeen all the time - and I met a few people.

The advantage was that you had a limited range, so most of the people you spoke to were quite close.

Lots of people used to have "eyeball cards", basically business cards printed with something like "You have just Eyeballed Soulkiss", which were handed out at meets, and some people wanted to build as big a collection as possible.

So in a lot of ways MORE social than the intarwebs, but not as handy for using when at work
