Hi Guys,
Basically have a p reg SRAD I got from a .orger as a second bike a couple of months ago, Anyway was hit by a cage driver while filtering, no major issue but its going thru her ins due to minor cosmetic damage, Couple of panel but I've just had a call from the assessors asking if I am interested in keeping the bike once it is a write off? So was wondering a) what difference it means to the assessors and b) is i get less money by saying yes (Obiviously I know I would have to buy it back) or c) if I say no will they repair it or yes will the just write it off. All seems a bit strange to me! Cheers |

Some 6 years ago my SV was a cosmetic write off, they valued the bike pre-accident at 3k, the salvage at 300 and so gave me 2.7k and I got to keep the bike. Would have cost me 100 pounds to get it ridable on the road again.
I instead went for using it as a track bike which is how I ended up with this: ![]() *and* a road bike. Druid

ok sound understandable but this is coming from the assessors? Shouldn't that be coming from the ins company? is the assessor gonna assess less because I want to keep it?

I think there's a standard charge for buying the bike back from salvage for a % of the total figure your insurers give you for the bike.
My K8 was written off (Cat D) in Feb and I got paid about £3,700 IIRC and bought it back for £1k. Cost me around £200 to put it back to as it was (including MOT) . |

![]() Yes it does. ANY bike or car that has been classed as "written off", cat D or cat C will show up on the database and insurers will adjust costs to suit. I dont understand why but when I asked about it they said it was classed as "higher risk" which we all know is rubbish. Dont even ask about insuring a stolen recovered on a Q plate.... ![]() |

It doesn't in my experience...the thing that put my insurance up was that the 3rd party that knocked me off hadn't admitted liability until just after my renewal was due. I phone Carole Nash and told them when he admitted liability and they adjusted the premium back down. In no way was the Cat D even factored in, in fact, when I got mine back on the road with 6 months until my renewal, they were fine with it still being covered by the insurance, even though it had been written off, paid out and then put back on the road. All they cared about was that it had an MOT.
