as you can tell i know begger all about fixing bikes.
got my new can coming but was wondering how easy it is to remove the standard one? i havent had a proper look at it. i know there is the main bracket that holds it onto the frame of bike but not sure what id need to do once i undo that. is the can just a slip off or is there alot more involved? thanks in advance stewart ![]() |

I'm told a junior hacksaw is your friend for this job.

yep or a angle grinder
new cans should come with instructions, the cut point is about 50mm up from a weld line but could be different for different cans |

yeah chop first otherwise the weight of the can will snap the pipe whilst your cutting giving you a crap cut
wait until you can arrives tho before you go cutting |

Yeah, don't drop it off the hanger till you've cut through, although checking you can undo the can hanger bolt the day before you fit it isn't a bad idea. Spray some wd or something on if it's stuck.
And remember, measure twice and triple check ![]() |

no no no no welding needed, you cut off the old pipe and the new can will be supplied with a link pipe that slips over the existing pipes, you then do a nut up to clamp it on....... you will see when it turns up its really simple

You should get instructions with the can, but it is a simple job to do. All you need is a hacksaw; keep the OEM silencer bolted to the rear foot-peg and make a cut all the way through the linkpipe (exact location details will be provided with the new can, it is usually 40-50mm away from the weld). Be careful with background cutting, you don't want to be cutting the swingarm at the same time for obvious reasons!
Once the cut is complete support the OEM can and undo the rear footrest bolt. Remove the can, slip on the link pipe, slip on the the can, align it all up and then do up the bolt to mount the silencer strap to the rear footrest followed by the exhaust hose clips. Job done, sounds a bit tricky with the cutting but it really is easy. |
