Default Lifespan of Honda CBR600RR reg/rec tested.

Ages back, I fitted a Honda reg/rec, on the basis that the Suzuki ones are s**t. It just died, so I thought back to how well it's lasted... The bike's on 51000 miles, and in the first 28000 it went through 3 replacement standard reg/recs- so an average of just 7000 miles each. The next 23000 was just the one Honda one, so it's done well- but then I remembered, I bought this part used out of a mate's CBR which was being scrapped, and it had already done 25000 miles before that from new. So... Honda win I reckon So, I've just fitted the exact same model to replace it, here's to another 48000 miles.

(I have to admit, I didn't do any testing at all, I just went straight from "flat battery, dang" to "I've got a spare reg/rec, I'll replace it" without ever going through the part where you say "Maybe it's the battery" or "Maybe it's a loose wire" or whatever. Luckily, I was right )

I have replaced my reg/rec once, about 17,000 miles ago now. How can you get through so many? What factors affect the life of a reg/rec?

No idea... It's not just me, the previous owner had to replace the first one at about 8000 miles and I popped one regular as clockwork after that too. Supposedly low power draw is worst for them, they overheat- so you'd think my heated grips and higher draw lights would help, but seemingly not.

Oh, but to be fair I think one of my replacements was bought used so for all I know it had done 100000 miles before it failed, so probably better leave that one out. The new ones all did between 7000 and 10000 miles.

Interesting to know, although I am still on the original and covered almost twice the miles.

i'm gonna try and relocate the curvy reg to a different spot on the bike-think it will benefit from colder air running over the fins rather than being stuck under the seat fairing.

MY VFR750 is on I believe it's original reg/rec, if its not original then it was replaced in the first 27k and been good ever since.

It's currently on 74k and 20 years old.

I have not a clue tbh, I fitted the Honda one on the advice of someone on the board, Sid Squid or Embee, someone like that who I listen to anyway... But I'm no expert on these things, I just use what seems to work. Good link though, they have some nice toys!
