Default Clunky gear change

Hi

Bought an 03 SV650 a few weeks ago (private sale). It's been running well but just recently the gear changes have got clunky, occasionally gets stuck in 1st when trying to move into 2nd, and gearbox seems to be a lot noiser when going down through the gears. Should i be worried!?

Thumbs down Re: Clunky gear change

It was serviced about 1500 miles ago, and the oil level seems fine.

clean chain with parrafin. dry with rag. lubricate with good chain lubricant. Adjust.

Then, whip off the front sprocket cover (if you havnt already) and clean the clutch worm drive. Slacken the cable right off and adjust the worm drive (undo the 10mm nut, screw the little bar in until it juuuust touches whatever it touches, then screw back out 1/4 of a turn, then holding it there, tighten the 10mm nut up). readjust cable slack.

Clean and lubricate (with some oil, not WD40...) gear lever pivot.

Hopefully, this should all do the trick

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go this weekend (or somebody with a better idea of what they're doing will!)
Cheers

Don't service your chain with engine running & in gear
As said, chain is a good place to start though.

The gear box shaft can get gunged up, clean it and give it a spray with some sort of lube... No K-Y...
