Default My Repaint Project

I thought I would share with everybody my latest project

I have had the SV now for about 18 months and unfortunately it has picked up some scratches in pretty much every panel and a little dent in the tank.

Since buying the bike I have fitted a cheap fiberglass replica undertray which took a lot of work to get to fit but is on there now. ( It is still in white gelcoat)

I have also fitted a rear hugger which was painted, very badly in my opinion, it had paint splits coming up all over it and the right had side has actually melted away against the side of my exhaust

Never mind, this is when I decided the other day that the bike can do with all of this sorting.

This is where the project starts.....

The following pictures are of the bike literally filthy dirty just after I got the hugger to fit.

The first part of the project is to rectify the panel damage before I can begin prepping.

The first part to get attacked by me was the rear hugger, this was in a very sorry state, not only did it have a poor paint job from the previous owner, the side had melted where it was pushing on my high level exhaust.

I rubbed the hugger down to get rid of all the paint splits through it. Once this was achieved, I cut a nice shape out of the side of the hugger where it was melting on the side of the exhaust so it can have some nice painted mesh bonded on the back, for looks and more importantly strength.

Pics to follow shortly...

How you gonna fill those holes?

You using a proper spray setup (and paint) or just rattlecans?

Ah fair enough, I have a sprayer & paint available to me but I'm not keen on breathing the stuff tbh (yeah I know the risks).

If you click reply to post (when in advanced view) there's a button with a pic of two hills and a sun on it click that and insert your web address of the pic.

Just got the pm, cheers mate.

I always use an air fed mask, the one time i didnt I was painting an old cinquecento in fiat broom yellow, it was a solid colour. Every time i sneezed or coughed I was bringing up yellow paint, that went on for a good few days! never again.

Anyway heres the pictures of the rear hugger..
