Default Back on a V twin

It's many years since I rode a V twin, since my SV I've had a parallel twwin, two IL4s and now the triple. Bike is in the workshop today and the loaner is a Dullsville 650. When I saw it I thought 'what a barge, what a POS'.

But once I got used to the physical size of it, it's a pleasant surprise - far more capable than I thought it would be. It must be twice the size of my 675. Not as slow as I was expecting, more manooverable too, riding position is odd after the 675, and not as engaging, but OK. I can actually see things other than my elbows in the morrors, and doing a shoulder check is not a physical impossibility. Of course it won't set the Thames on fire but it wasn't designed to.

I could be converted

Makes a nice change Ed, I've had a go on one of the 700's and was quite impressed although I ended up going for a different V twin......

Cheers Mark.

Ibby took her SV in for a service the other week. They offer her a Bandit as a loan bike, but she couldn't reach the ground with her feet, so she ended up with a 50cc scooter. I didn't take the p*ss!

I had one of its VERY distant cousins. A BROS650mk2. Lovely torquey engine. Too long ago to compare to a SV (44bhp vs 70bhp).

Would love to see Honda put the big 780cc? Dullville engine in a decent chassis with chain drive. Sweet. Better than any dull as feck CB thing.

See a lot of retirees/grumps on them. Its a mini Pan.

Are you getting to that age Ed?

I know what you mean Ed - it's useful to ride something else to put your own bike into perspective, but great to be back on your own again!

Going from a lovley little sports bike, with good brakes, suspension, engine power (and obviously the best sounding engine style noise, 3 cylinders ), onto a big wollowy comfy plain spongy braked machine, is always a little strange..

Every time I take Nelli out and then get back on the bandit after its indeed a culture shock, every time

Thought i'd have learned by now one is not as good as the other

They are surprisingly nimble, not that ive ridden one but there used to be a guy on one on my daily commute into london who would filter thru spaces that i really didnt think he'd attempt. And he had the full luggage fitted too.

Bet you'll think "why the hell did i even like that thing?" when the 675 is back tho
