I mashed a pair ar Knockhill in October and they were very grippy but the rear suffered from cold tear. In fact, at all the club racing I've been to, I've not seen a rear that didn't suffer from cold tear. I could get the rear to slide but when it did so it was very predictable and even useable. It became a regular event at the bottom of Duffus dip to tighten up the turn. Nice when a tyre is that predictable.
Were they better than Racetecs/SCpros etc? Well the fact that I haven't bought any more whist I have bought more used SC Pros and Racetecs means that subconciously I must like/trust the other tyres more. They are a very popular tyre on the road racing scene in Ireland and a lot of boys use them for the TT too with excellent results. I'm yet to find out whether they are running a special compound version specially made for the top teams. If theya re the road version i'm very impressed. The fact that they were so different from the new K slicks from Dunlop in the Bike mag test didn't do them any favours. The top treaded tyres from the other boys are the same with some small tread marks in them (in 17 inch). They're the same construction and compounds. The Dunlop Slicks were entirely different from the new slicks. Maybe there's a new 209 GP tyre just around the corner? But I wanted to read that the treaded and untreaded tyres were just about the same. Maybe it was a bit of artistic licence? maybe they were 125/75/16.5 slicks? If they're good enough for the road race boys in Ireland they'll easily be up to being flogging to death on a Minitwin. But maybe the psychology of believing other tyres are faster would allow you to push the other tyres faster? C Last edited by Berlin; 25-11-09 at 08:30 AM. |

I use the 209GP racer slicks on my GSXR, but I only do track days on it now. Having said that I've never had a problem with them, they hold on really well and seem to give loads of feel, and as they're based on the road tyre carcass they don't mind repeated heat cycles which is worth remembering for us track dayers... Dunlop also reckon you could get away without warmers, but I've never tried that! I use the soft front and the E (Endurance) rear, they wear out as a pair and I can usually get two days out of them (as long as it's not Lydden or Spa, talk about two completely different tracks!)
I use the D209 Qualifier (not the RR) on my SV which is mainly used on the road, but I've done a few trackdays on them and although they don't have the ultimate grip they have such a nice progressive breakaway that you can really take liberties on them, which is possibly why they are so good on the road. |

I love 'em! Raced 2 seasons on them with the minitwins and the wets are just fantastic.
But it's just down to personal preference and riding style in the end. Try them, it's the only way to find out if you like them. |

Hi, new to racing this year with bemsee on a carbed sv, i,ve always used dunlops on the road and trackdays and loved em, but i am slightly confused as to which ones i can use in minitwin class, rules state only road based tyres, does this include the d209 gp soft, medium compound tyres?
cheers for any help, Stevo |

yep you can use those Dunlops no problem, so long as they are 'road legal' you can use anything (So that rules out things like Michelin SM and Slicks etc).
