I wish a mod would suggest that no one ask this question.
All tyres are good, there's no consensus, it's very subjective. Any tyres are a lot better than we are as riders. Your best bet is to talk to a tyre shop owner - who sells a lot of tyres for a lot of different bikes - and see what they suggest based on your riding style and environment. |

There's no harm in asking, especially when it's a newer member. This is a discussion forum after all. And not all tyres are good, on all makes & models (ask an ST1100 owner). Or try some Cheng Shin Ditchfinders for size! Avon Storm ST's are highly regarded on SV's, by the way. Cheers. |

Why shouldnt he ask the question? Tyres are a major part of a bike that should be selected carefully. Some tyres are bad! Speak for yourself when you talk about riding abilities.

Just trying to avoid the "Dunlops are horrible, I'll only ever use Bridgestone"-brigade. Dunlops aren't horrible, and you'll have just as many people saying exactly the opposite. I don't think many (any?) riders will be exceeding the capabilities of their tyres. But there are a lot of riders who will be exceeding their own capabilities pretty quickly. Then they blame the tyres, which is wrong. So take the "<brand X> is crap" remarks with a pinch of salt. So... excepting really crap retreads, there isn't much between tyres from the major manufacturers: Avon, Michi, Conti, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Pirelli, etc. They're all really good. |

I have they on at the moment and for enthusiastic riding I don't rate them at all either. They may be good for touring etc as to be fair they have lasted over 5k of fairly hard riding, but there is no feel in them, very wooden. I will be trying the Michelin that pete&lissa are fond of next, although I can't remember the name of them. |

An on going subject, as is tyre development, so no harm in asking, even if the question is perhaps worded vaguely, but I'd agree with Stewart Avon Storms offer a good blend of performance and longevity along with Strada's, Metz Z6's.
Cheers Mark.

I really like the avon storms, however only got to compare them with battleaxes (I think - some that were on it when purchased) and dunlop d208rrs. Stuck with avons as I liked em
