Ive just been quoted £185 to replace my cam chain tensioners is that about the going rate

Glad I did my front one myself, putting it simply, which one is causing you the issue? Most likely just the front. Now you can get this out if you have the hands of a girl without removing the carbs, I couldn't so didn't sooooooo Remove tank remove airbox remove carbs Remove CCT as per the manual test lube and check the CCT, if knackered bribe me with a couple of beers for a spare Fit CCT using hand made tool (or borrow my hand made tool) Fit carbs Fit Air box Fit tank simple, ish ![]() It's worth a go if you haven't got the money and for a novice a spare weekend. If you have the hands of a girl then you maybe able to get it out without the carbs etc which saves loads of messing around. As for the 185 quid, we I have more important bills to pay with that tbh and the way I would look at that is it's only 20 quid shy of a brand new fitted set or PR2's ![]() One things for sure though if your CCT is causing probs you'll want to fix it before it goes bang (as in the engine) and then you really be in a brown watery creek with no paddle. |

Hi 5hort5 again mate i knew you would not let me down LOL iam 95% sure its the front one , im going to have a go this week sometime as im off on half term with the kids , the guy at the garage said its very hard to do it yourself only cos the CCT may slip inside and then its a full engine strip down this what got me thinking MMM! should i do it myself anyway feck that im going to have a go anyway whers the best place to buy a new CCT or i may have to bride you with a few beers has im only down the road from you in lowton cheers buddy

I reluctantly took both my CCTs out the other week. I say reluctanly because it seemed a daunting task beforehand, however, I'd be prepared to do it again now. There's nothing complicated about the job, it's just a bit fiddly.
Make sure you have some quality allen keys as the bolts will be buggers to shift. Also access is pretty tight to the front one, you can't just look straight down onto the bolts. I'd definately recommend doing it yourself, a little perseverience will save you the £185!! *Oh, I didn't bother removing the carbs, can't really see that would have helped much.* Last edited by MrTom; 16-02-10 at 09:22 AM. |

I always remove carbs for that, you can get a 1/4 drive ratchet in over the thermostat then. Helps IMO.
Biggest thing to make it easy is locking tool.
