Currently riding 53 plate 650s. 17k miles, owned from new, FSH, fully MOTd etc. Just been offered a SV1000s, same year, 27k miles, full MOT and history for only £1800. VERY tempted.
What I need to know are what are the major differences between the 2 models, apart from the bigger engine of course! Is it worth swapping my beloved 650 or not? TIA |

I like the tho a lot, twin cans really do it for me!
But i hear they are thirsty old beasts. Other than that ive not heard anything bad about them tho there is a chance i wasn't listening cos i do that sometimes.

1000's gt better front brakes, they are a bit more thirsty on petrol but you tend not to thrash them as much due to the power. hydrolic clutch. eats more rubber....

Better suspension, heavier, more expensive tyres.

Everything.
As stated before they are not the same bike at all, other than styling they share very little. See: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=128036 http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=135458 http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=63258 http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=59846

I dont exactly WANT one, its just that the deal on offer is really, really good. If I could afford it Id be getting a black 750 with carbon fibre wheels, but with a baby coming along, the deal on the 1000 might just have to suffice.
How much more thirsty are they roughly? Quite important as I do 50 miles a day. Tyres arent too bad as my mates own B&C Performance Tyres in Bolton and they look after me. |

Dicking around my fuel light used to come on at 80 miles, sticking to 70ish on the motorways it would come on at about 140

Fuel consumption is heavily dependant on use, obviously that's true of all machines, but in the case of the SV1000 there's a marked difference between the best and the worst you'll return to a tank.
Less than a hundred to the light is only too easy if you go for a hoon, just getting around, (the ordinary miles that get you to work and back etc), and a bit of riding 'round town perhaps 120 miles, and any sort of lengthy trip 140 miles plus. Best tank I've had from mine is 170 miles, and on one sincerely boring trip following a camper up the M40 at 50-55mph it did 80 miles on one gallon!

Managed 220 miles to the fuel light from Macc to AR09 fully loaded with tankbag, topbox and tailbag. Slipstreaming lorries down the M1/M25 for alot of it. Well boring, but cheap.
