I haven't run the bike all winter. Started it up today to do an oil change. Took it up and down the drive twice to test the brakes and help it warm up (it has no tax or mot). Neighbour turns up with his phone and says "can you stop doing that I am in my garden and it is very noisey". I had the baffle in the exhaust and only went up the drive twice. I told him I had to have it running to change the oil. This obviously didn't make any sense to him and he just kept replying with "are you going to stop" while holding his phone.
So I said very slowly for him "I have to have it running" so off he goes to phone the police. They turn up half an hour later, speak to him then come round to see me. Apparently he has been recording the noise levels of my bike..... and says that I deliberately rev it as I go past his window, which I don't, but I have to do a 3 point turn to go back down the drive which happens to be at his window. So the police tell me that if he calls them again, they will come back and give me like a yellow card. And if it happens twice and he has got another witness to the noise being too much, they will take my bike away. The noise level only needs to be over 40db or something to be considered anti-social. Oh and while they were explaining this a train went past, which is a hell of a lot louder than my bike. So now, I'm not allowed to work on my bike at all or risk getting an asbo and the bike being taken away. They suggested if I did have to work on it that I should go round and ask permission to see if he minds...... ![]() |

Tough situation that... I am sure if we asked his version of events it would differ slightly.
I don't see why you have have the engine running to do a 3 point turn on your drive. Heating the oil up to change it without tax or mot to take it on the road is a pain. Myself I try to run my engine as little as possible when at home, it's fairly quite on my estate and the noise goes everywhere. Last edited by G; 21-03-10 at 04:12 PM. |

its simples, if he wants to be petty then you be petty, stuff like if your driveway is shared or next to eachother start parking right on you edge of it, or parking right outside his house..... do little petty things to annoy them
i not sure how it works up there but i think down here you get reported, if its a copper that reports you you get a section 59 issued and if a copper see's it happening again they can take you keys from you and call for a tow, but they can only do this if they see you breaking the asbo not if a member of the public reports you. i had the family from hell across the road moan about the bike so i simply parked my car outside their really ridiculously where they park even tho my driveway was clear, i still do it just because im a ar$e ![]() Last edited by Wideboy; 21-03-10 at 04:07 PM. |

I bet your a lovely neighbour
![]() just keep the noise down... Bike are noisey even baffled they make wholes houses shake. When it comes to noise I can sympathsise with non bikers as it probably is damn annoying. Noisey neighbours can ruin your life. With neighbours it better to just keep the peace. it's not worth the hassle. |

if they seize it under section 59 they have to prove that it was too loud which means they need to get a decibel reader that is within calibration, which needs a certificate.
Later tonight go drill a hole in his car exhaust then the moment he started it call the police about it being loud. Or leave the bike ticking over on the driveway and see what they say then, nothing illegal about leaving it to warm up on the drive way, that will make him cry and the police cant complain about anything. and follow wideboys advice be an b@$t@rd to them. Of course winding him up some more by being an asshat isnt really going to alleviate the situation is it...
Darren why dont you go around and talk to him, has he complained about noise before, dont be assy with him, just go and talk and be polite and see if you cant sort it out amicably.
