Going to add to the list here, driving back to the office today - was pretty sure I was in a 30 but was driving to the conditions anyway so probably nearer 20mph. Road opens up a little bit I increase speed a bit....

...'ooh there's a speed camera', all clear in front, check my speedo 29mph, FLASH....wtf was that ?! check my mirror; nope still no cars behind...no street lights have just turned on there's just the menacing speed camera there on it's own in my rear view mirror.
Look back at my speedo 29mph...slow down a bit think 'wtf' out of the corner of my eye I see my speedo shoot to 0..........p1ss.
Put the accelerator back down a bit 24mph...10mph..25mph....30mph.

Cocknobs....

Just praying it's one massive coincidence and I'm not actually that unlucky.

Lets be honest - you are that unlucky usually, so I'd go and stock up on lube if I were you. On your way, go see if the speedo can be looked at so you don't get caught again.

Well it did feel near 30 so hopefully nothing over 3points...Gonna sting on the insurance front but atleast I have 12points on my licence to play with.
Car's booked in.
The speedo must be on the gear box on these so don't really know what to check myself, on the drive home it seemed to mainly go funny when decelerating or hitting a pot hole/bump so seems loose connectiony rather than water in electrics/fubarred part when holding a steady pace it did seem to display a speed that felt about right (and kept it displaying until a change of speed),odd. It also went up and down occasionally when stationary which was annoying as an alarm went off to tell me it's not a good idea to do 60mph with the handbrake on

...and the garage man. Bizarrely enough the speedo error is because the airbag ecu has failed...apparently these are linked - only £400 for the part*

* I love breakers though
