Default Ford - high mileage

I herd about a 04 focus edge for sale through a friend in the trade, 1.8 tdci (115 version) its got 110k on the clock. i've not looked at it yet but its evidently an ex rep runner however it has full service history with the same dealer. i was originally interested in buying it to sell on but thinking about having it for myself as insurance is just coming up on the my car. like most people i've always bought at lowest possible mileage

i'll rack up probably 12k in a year easy so has anyone had experience with high mileage fords, i think its worth atleast a look as its on the way home from work

My Dads had 2 Mondeos as his company car, 53 reg (i think) tdci 130 psi with 150k and his current 57reg 1.8 tdci with 80k on the clock

The 53 was good but his 57 has been preety naff from day one

Only thing i know of on the Focus to look out for is something to do with the fly wheel

I have a ford escort td estate 1997. Its currently at 140k miles and though ive just had to spend a few hundred quid (turbo seals, cv boot and some welding) it should be good for a few more thousand yet.
Its got a Perkins Endura diesel engine and apparently that should be good for 200k miles.
Fingers crossed!

Hello mate, the thing to watch for is the turbo. Unofficially from a Ford technician, they are usually good for 100-120K, after that they can have issues and need replaced. If it's already been replaced then no worries- but if not it is worth getting it checked by someone you trust.

Hope it works out for you.

Cheers

We have a 53 plate TDCI ( Duratorque 100bhp ) Focus.

Watch for bushes play on the rear suspension. Ours failed its MOT on that little lot and it cost a bl**dy fortune to put right.

I cant remember which lot we had done for the MOT, but when I had it MOT'd the other week apparently the rear trailing arm bushes are on the way out to.

Apart from that its been pretty good. We got it from Liz's sister with 35K on the clock, its done something stupid like 50K in the last couple of years with something clocking up for 90K on it.

Not really had any major issues on it, just normal wear and tear stuff like tyres and when my brother looked the other day we are going to need to replace the disks at some point soon to...

If you can get it for a good price, personally I'd go for it. I really like ours, its really good to drive.

Got 75k on my 53 plate tdci (115) focus. No problems so far It's a car I'll run in to the ground as it's so cheap to run for what it is. 55mpg and still pulls harder than it should.

Irritatingly it costs about the same to buy parts as taking it to a garage. Europarts are pretty good though.

Yup - its a problem with most (if not all) modern diesels - the dual mass flywheel - expensive to replace and can happen at any time...

well that was a piece of she-hight , it may have been mechanically sound but i honestly didn't stay long enough to open the door let alone the bonnet it certainly looked like it had done 110k cosmetically...... 110k and not been washed, mind you judging by the state of the bodywork im guessing the dirt was there to try and hide it

its nothing i couldn't have sorted out but not really something i would have wanted to take on, the gain in profit from a sell on wouldnt really have been worth the time TBH
