Some of you may remember a thread about one of my relatives who is dying of cancer.
A few weeks back he was expected to last about a week - lung cancer, with about 20% left working. Kidney cancer, with badly failing kidneys. And a brain tumor bigger than a cricket ball and 'invading' both sides of the brain. Needless to say he's not well. The fact he is still alive is a miracle of the first water. At a Case Conference earlier today the hospital have decided to discharge him to home. The local hospice won't take him because he doesn't have a 'die by date.' He's too ill according to the Consultant to go for another scan which will help determine a date. He can't walk, he is totally incontinent, he's throwing up anything he eats/drinks. And the only person at his home is one of his son's who isn't a full shilling. And to cap it all, they can find a place for him if he puts his house on the market. But he isn't in a fit state to do that, and nor is he fit enough to give Lasting Power of Attorney to his other son to allow him to manage his affairs. The guy worked all his life, paid tax all his life including long service in the army during one of Britain's conflicts. Vote For Gordon! You must be 'kin havin a laugh. .,.,;l;l,,mklj'o'm,,/./..// bad language deleted by Bri.

Local MP/candidate with a strong hint that failure to act will result in article in press?
If they do send him home with no competant adult there to provide the care needed they are negligent,so I hope they know that you know that?

Must be a common thing hun.
Unfortunately my sons godmother lost her mum at xmas. She already had limitations from a really big stroke years ago, but after finding out she had breast cancer, her care was shall we say dubious. It did go all over eventually, and in her last weeks, at one point she was so bad she couldn't breath, and she was told when they took her to hospital the first time, it was a chest infection and the second time, my friend and her sister were told there was nothing that they could do for their mum, and they were better off taking her home to die, as, if they admitted her, they would send her home anyway! Needless to say, when they told her they'd send out the Macmillans nurse, my friends mum sadly died....the nurse turned up the day after. The powers that be seem to not care about those in the last stages of life sometimes, its really unfair.

Gutted they're putting you through this.
There should be a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at the hospital, who act as point of contact for situations like this and will do a lot of running round "inside" the NHS for you. Failing that, get hold of the relevant surgical / medical director and/or chief exec and let them know what you think and who you'll be telling about it if they don't extract digits from orifices.

I just don't understand why you had to go this route, when all the assembled carers can see what your relative is going through in the final stages of his life. Not dignified at all My thoughts are with you
