Default Carlsberg Export Rideout - 16th May - Final Details Thread

Stronger, crisper and longer lasting than previous carlsberg rideouts

Sunday 16th May

The route:
Extended from the previous two rides to include the yorkshire dales and a lunchstop in the middle. I didn't realise there would be so many people who'd come from a fair distance for the previous rides, had I been a bit more switched on then the ride would have been a bit longer..

Meeting Place: The Giant Carpark shared by Tesco/Burger King on Clifton Moor Retail Park
Features toilets, fuel, food, cash machine and a MASSIVE carpark for us to assemble in. Coming from the a1237 York ringroad, follow the signs for tesco's. I'll have parked my bike in a prominent position near the entrance to the carpark so people spot us as they pull in

Agenda for the day:
9.30 - Paul the 6th and motley crew arriving at meeting place as listed above

10:15 - Rideout begins...

11:45 - First stop at Leeming bar services: Fuel, toilet, cigarettes and if you can't wait til hawes, nibbles (McDonalds/Petrol Station Picnic)

12:05 - Leave leeming bar services

12:50 - Arrive in Hawes for lunch... There's plenty of pubs, a banging chipshop and some other stuff...

13:40 - Depart from Hawes for afternoon leg of rideout..

15:00 - Pateley Bridge for toilet, leg stretch, pictures, the oldest sweet shop in england (do yourself a favour by bringing the other half a nice sweet souvenir etc...

15:30 - Depart from Pateley bridge to Ripon

16:00 - Arrive at McDonalds in Ripon, the end location of the ride. Again, there's fuel, toilets, cash machine and food if anyone needs them.

There are 2 designated petrol stops on this 150 mile ride, the first petrol stop at 62 miles in, the second at the end of the ride after 88 miles. If anybody is worried about the 2nd half of the ride, there is a petrol station in Pateley bridge but it is rubbish. The pumps are not linked to the tils so the cashier has to come out and check how much you've put in, then run back inside and type the cash amount into the til = tedious for 20+ bikes... So if you're on a superbike, please feel free to fill up here. If not, we'll all be fine til the end point at ripon.

Depending on numbers and weather, we can head on down to squires cafe people are interested...

The ride:
Please read this and be familiar with it.
Everyone should please be familiar with the second man route marking system

Riders not confident to mark a junction should not ride directly behind the leader.

Move over when safe and allow someone else to take the "2nd man" position.

Do not under any circumstances just "follow the leader" with no other marker in place as this will result in people going all over the place at random. You will also be tea-bagged by the tea-bagging committee.

If you get left as a marker unwittingly, or there is any doubt as to whether people know where they are going at a junction, turn or roundabout, wait for the Tail-ender to pass and rejoin.

I apologise if I am teaching any grandmas to suck eggs but people getting lost will result in delay, and ruin the rideout while we spend 45 mins parked up arguing and waiting for everyone to re-group..

This will be a ride of steady pace, no heroics please. None will be left behind with the marking system used.

Do no feel pressured to keep up/stay ahead.

I think I have covered all bases but if I've missed anything then I will edit appropriately. Feel free to post any questions/discuss the ride in here, a seperate attendance thread will be up in the next day or two...

Any shouts for TEC?

Paul, can you be a bit clearer about the meet point? The flag on both your links to Google maps is on the ring road, but we won't be meeting there I'm sure. It will be easy to find you guys if you know the area, but others may end up in the wrong bit of Clifton Moor.

Original post amended, thanks for pointing it out mike it's easy to gloss over stuff as I'm rubbish at organising stuff without a clipboard and a checklist lol

I may not turn up as i'm running the manchester BUPA 10k the day before! My legs may be in a sorry state and not fit for riding.
