Hello all
![]() Jake here, new to the site so this post is a bit experimental.. Having owned my 600 Diversion Yam for nearly 3 years I have been reasonably happy with its performance for my needs. Last week though I blagged a couple of hours on a new Gladius and have to admit to loving the 'twin' way of doing things. I don't know if it was the newness of the bike (barely 100 miles) or the step up to a much more modern machine than the Yam, but the ride home on mine was a bit of an eye opener, grabby clutch, slow throttle response, unwilling engine... Having taken the excess slack out of the clutch, throttle cable and drive-chain I still long for the Gladius. Was wondering if an SV would be as good a choice as my current budget can't quite justify a brand new bike, does the Gladius feel a great deal more sophisticated than the SV or is my Divvie just THAT dated? Also are there any 6 footers riding SV650s on here who rely solely on it for everyday, all-round use? If you got this far.. sorry for the length of the post ![]() |

im a 6"8 paddy i used my sv650 curvy every day and loved it gladius is like the other 650s sv's but with a differnt look yes your divi is prob dated and the sv will be far more fun you can pick up a sv for anywhere betwen 1000 and 3000 ,there are a few minters on here for sale for under 2000, (example dizzyblondes) ps nothing more sophisicated about the sv just built with a superior engine and frame |

The Gladius is basically still an SV, but with different wheels and looks.
So yes, an SV is still a good choice if the Glad is out of your budget. |

I'm 6' 2" and use my curvy 99 SV every day. I'm fairly new to the SV and have really got used to it. I bought it for £1600 from a dealer, which I think was a good price.

Welcome Jake
The gladius has the same engine as the SV allbeit with a few minor tweeks SCEM and Iridium plugs. I say get the SV as it looks better than the Glady

6'2" on a '99 naked curvy. Commute most days, all weathers. Would not say its spacious (its not like riding a Goldwing), but certainly not cramped. I have a slightly knackered leg and it does not leave me in agony by any stretch. Bear in mind the S (faired) has clip ons, so the riding position will be different. However, having not ridden one, don't know if it would be more or less spacious.
The V twin way is addictive. Just watch out for that engine breaking in the wet- caaareful downshifts. |

Cool, thank you all for responses
![]() Curvy I take it is SV speak for the earlier model with the, i guess, curvy look? Does this model have any strengths over the more angular, injected one? Once I get the hang of this site I will look at existing threads to see of any potential problems before I decide which way to go... |

You will get some on here who like curvys some who like pointies. Pointy is fuel injected and curvy has carbs but apart from that and the looks they are pretty much the same. I go to Bikers World in Daventy to sample their free "cup of hot brown stuff" machine. They always have a couple of SVs for sale in there and I think one of the mechanics owns one so go down there and have a chat. Just looked on the Bikers World site and they have 2 in, they were both in there last time I went and they both look like good bikes, the black one is brand new and the yellow one I think had Ohlins suspension which probably means it has been raced but would certainly improve the handling. http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www...01008353457135 http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www...01011354603224
