Hi,
Im new on this site and haven't owned my sv for long. However I decided to upgrade my stock indicators to some flush mounted smoke LED's. They look absolutely great on the bike... until you turn them on and they flash to fast. Not to worry i was prepared and had an LED relay ready to fit if they didn't work. After fitting the relay the front indie's work when on parking light but not with the main ignition on and the rear standard ones work all the time. I've taken the relay back off and they flash fast but another problem is that they arent very bright, and im stuck as to what the problem is? Thanks for your help |

Welcome
![]() ( I`m fairly new here too, generally a nice bunch apart from the troublemakers though ![]() Anyway, how did you wire in the new LED relay ? The relay on the bike does the side stand circuit too I think so if you`ve removed that altogether then maybe thats whats wrong ? |

Hi thanks,
i followed the instructions partly on here and partly on: http://forum.svrider.com/archive/index.php/t-98047.html i removed the brown and light blue wire and clipped them to my new led relay. would the quality of the relay have anything to do with it? its some bargain basement make. and ive plugged the wires back into the original relay and everythings working just a bit fast. im still unsure of the brightness though (not sure if it will pass an mot with those on it either) |

The quality of the relay might affect it but i`m not sure, also if youve left the original bulb indicators at the back.
You could fit the original relay and use load resistors on the front LED lights ? |

Ah, cool. Yeah if your fitting all 4 indies I think the relay would be the better option, personally.
You could try fitting both LED`s on one side of the bike temporarily to see if they work with the relay. If so just wait till your other 2 arrive and the jobs a goodun ![]() I try to help if I can cause I know what its like when your scratching your head with stuff, so no probs ![]() |

Hell no, you need folk to see where you intend going.
Hence why i personally wouldn`t fit flush or ultra tiny little indicators, yeah they look cool but i`d rather folk could see mine clearly and have no excuse. Although I read somewhere that LED indicators are brighter. Last edited by Miss_Undaztood; 11-05-10 at 10:00 PM. |

I had them fitted to my sv, but instead of changing the relay, I put a resistor in parallel to the indicators which worked a treat at reducing the speed. (I can't remember what resistance they were, but I remember that they had to able to resist a lot of heat, so had to get specialist ones).
The main problem I found with the indicators is that they are not at all bright unless the engine is running to boost the power to them. Oh and they do pass MOTs as long as they are E-marked, if not it depends on the tester. Last edited by on yer bike; 12-05-10 at 05:13 PM. |

You need a whole lot of super bright LEDs to be as bright as a filament lamp, which there is just not the space for in moulding. This will give you an over all reduced brightness compared to the originals.
I too have tried them and yes they do not pass an MOT, I was sent home to change them! One other thing to warn you of with Flush mount LEDs on the front. When I fitted mine they were visible from the front providing you knew where to look, when it came to actually using them on the road, cage drivers could not see where I wanted to go and it caused a few issues. I got fed up with them in the end and fitted the originals back on. I used Ballast resistors to control the flash rate and to be honest, they were OK and did the job. I know that some folks on here don't like them, but they do work. The ones I had were wound wire, encased in ceramic and Alu cases. Resistance was about 7 Ohms and they were 50 Watts. Cost about £3 for the pair and postage via E-Bay. I took them off when I removed the LED lights. |
