Cheaper to buy a tool than get a garage to change the chain. I dont have one myself but I believe you can get a decent one for about 40 quid. As with all tools, the best thing to do is usually find a local metalwork supplies shop that caters for trade, the tools will be good quality and not really more expensive than what you can get on the internet. Also you can then go there for nuts and bolts as and when you need them, in any quantities and for proper prices (i.e ~1/5th what you pay in B&Q)

The above tool is a copy of the genuine DID riveter, they're pretty good from what I hear, & less than half the price of the genuine one. They're good when it comes to pressing on the new links sideplate. However, they will only rivet chains with a CLF type link, these are the ones with a dimple in the tip of the pin. So, they wont rivet links with a solid tipped pin.
Also, they're not too good when used as a splitter. As, the pin is un supported.
I use a belt sander to grind the tips of the pins off, & then a little 'percussive tweaking' with a small cold chisel to remove the side plate of an old chain. Then I use my DID tool to press the new sideplate on, & then depending on what type of link it is, I use either the DID tool, or a 'Whale' riveter. These are the 'Dogs' for use with solid pins, but you need 'mansize' hands to rivet the chain correctly when it's on the bike.

Cheers.
