Default Headphones - Again

Righty, i've read a few posts recently about headphones whilst biking.

Im not shelling out £150+ for those inner earphones!

I've searched here and the recommended ones recently are the following.

http://www.demonbikes.com/more/on/details/09595

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...CANCELLING.htm

http://rinzys.co.uk/store/index.php?...products_id=56

Ranging between £5-£25.

Its to go on my Ipod, which is ok at low speeds, but im wanting these for motorway use so need to be able to clearly hear the music at 80-90mph whilst reducing the wind noise as much as possible. I wear ear defenders all the time and the wind noise gets right on my fake boobies. Sitting on a motorway for 8+ hours means I really need some decent music to listen too. The Ipod ones completly fail after 60mph odd where the wind noise rises as the music dissapears, eventually lasting in a slight "rasp rasp rasp" at 80mph.

Out of the three here and those that have used them so far, which is going to be the best for cancelling out the wind noise? Any more suggestions also appreciated (yeah i've done searches and read lots of posts).

None of those will do your ears any good at 80mph (speaking as a tinnitus sufferer).

The Philips ones won't offer any advantages as the microphone working the noise cancelling technology is on the chord, so wouldn't be in your helmet.

If you really want a quiet ride there is no substitute for custom plugs. The next compromise are earbuds that replicate ear plugs such as the Etymotic range like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Etymotic-Res...4351907&sr=8-3

They offer a 30db reduction, but are uncomfortable for me after about 2 hours.

You can't get your ears fixed, even for £80

I know what you mean, it is pricey. But think of all the other tat people spend on their bikes. The other earphones you put above would have to be on full volume for you to hear them. 8+ hours of full volume with that style of earphones blasting it down your lugholes really doesn't do it any favours. Good for sub 60mph maybe.

Its not 8 hours constent, i've got to stop for fuel.

I don't want them at full volumn, I jsut want to be able to hear it a bit so I can sing-a-long.

700+ miles gets a little tedious.

I think I might go with the £5 jobbies from Rinzys then, and give them a test before I go. £5 won't break the bank

Wish I'd paid £80 for a set all those years ago, my hearing's screwed already and I'm not even 30 yet...

+1 for the Sennheisers I have a pair and they are great. Although I don't wear them on my bike the sound quality is 100 times better than that of standard Ipod phones.

Best sound isolating cheap plugs I've used are Koss Spark plugs. There's quite abit of info on the net about customising them. I changed the plug foam for some decent etymotic plugs and taped over the 'port holes' on the back of the plug to reduce the stupid amount of bass they came with. Sound was ace for the price.

If you cba to ghetto mod some cheapies though, these look quite good for the money and will probably be my next purchase when I can afford em :P
