Default Marushin - any good?

Spotted one of these helmets today, can't recall the exact model but it was apparently made of 'stone fibre' and was really light. Cost £180. Anyone have any knowledge of this brand and if so what are your thoughts?

Cheers

Hi

I think it might be the Marushin RS1 Carbon at that price. SHARP have reviewed 6 Marushin helmets and all the full face ones have scored 4 or 5 out of 5 (the flip front only got 2 out of 5).

I got a Marushin Kintaro last May and have used it through winter and summer. The helmet's comfortable and I found it a much better fit than other brands I tried. The vents seem sturdy and the visor can be changed in seconds if you wanted to change it.

Minor problem : The strap fastens using a double D ring and then the excess strap clips to a tab near the D rings using a plastic press stud - unfortunately the tab it clips to snapped off mine. I couldn't be bothered to see if the shop would exchange it but it does mean I hear the strap whipping the helmet as the speeds increase (I keep thinking about shortening the strap to stop this).

Unfortunately I can't compare it to other helmets as it's the only one I've owned.

Thanks Craig. I did get it, it's a 999 RS evotech. I'm very happy with it, esp as I got it a bit cheaper on a promo day at a local bike shop. It's so light and as I opted for the bright yellow one (love it or hate it I know) I have noticed that loads less people seem to pull out on me. It's also quieter than my old Lazer and my other half's HJC.

Is it this fella? Where did you buy it from?

I've seen the Marushin Shivan online for £70 but need to find a shop that sells them so I can try one on

I can't see the pic for some reason but it's pretty much fluoro yellow with little black bits and writing. Got it from Motorserv, Old Wolverton, Milton Keynes.

Got a "Marushin Shivan Dragon Helmet" at Excel show in Feb ( £60 show price. )

I really liked the design, reminds me of the tins that loose tea used to come in ( at me granny's) in the 70's !

Pros +
The fit is good and trim is good quality.
Nice design, bright colours.

Cons -
The visor isn't that good a quality, flexes easy, feels a bit tacky. Doesn't click nicely into place.
I do find this helmet noisy, there are lots of air holes dotted all over and also a bit cold on long non sunny rides. More of a summer helmet.
The pointy / angular chin piece seems to get caught in the wind at speed.
The chin strap is a loop type which I know is the modern way (safer) but its a bit annoying. I prefer the old seat belt type straps.
