Default trail tech vapor power questions

how should i power it? direct from the battery or from the loom.

the reason i ask this is because in the manual it advises direct from the battery, but then the light stays on for the 20min before it goes in to sleep mode ... and that will attract unnecessary attention when parked up at night at shops or something but if i wire it to the loom with no battery in the vapor it losses the time,

if i leave the vapor internal batt in and wire it to the loom so it comes on with the bike that method works as when the vapor loses power from the bike it goes to the internal batt and the light goes out on the vapor because its running off the internal battery, but i dont think thats the best way

any other suggestions

Sounds like wiring it to switched live is your only option.

Or maybe open it up and connect a regulated feed from a permanent live into where the internal battery goes?

If you wired it direct to the battery, doesn't that mean anyone could start messing with it even though the ignition is off?

^ yup, and YC, i think thats what im going to have to run it switched, the problem with the battery option is that the screen light does not work, so cant do that because then i cant use it at night :/

hmm...

i might just get a mini clock and have the battery out and run it switched, it will mess the time up but at least it can be tampered with

What's the problem with this method?

edit: ahh the battery runs out. How long does it last?

What makes you think people will mess with it?

They might have a good look then just walk away, but it's very rare people actually touch anything. I think you're fretting over nothing, wire it like the diagram says

My housemate is wiring one into his ZX7R as I type this. Poor bloke is by no stretch of the imagination an electrically minded person, great engineer but crap at electrics. He's having loads of grief trying to add an Acumen gear indicator into the Trailtech speedo wiring because he needs at least 4 magnets for that and the Trailtech only has one. Looks like he's got to fix 4 magnets and a new pick-up in somewhere. Wiring in the tacho feed was a nightmare because he kept getting HT induction the way he wired it before. I had to point out that running a single cable alongside all 4 HT leads wasn't the best idea. It works fine now he's run it up the other side.

thanks for the advice so far

i think im going to wire it in to the switch with the battery and see how well i get on with it, if i have any problems then i will just wire it to the battery.

will get it wired in this week now that i have my forks back, and every thing else to finish the build

I wired mine straight to battery. Works fine, I'm not worried about people mucking with it as it had never occurred to me. Less of the bike's wiring you have to cut into too.

All very interesting, but what on earth is it that you are wiring up?
