when i was checking round my bike i noticed the gear push rod is loose and bent. Im not sure how long its been like this and if its out of position. How would i set it back into it correct position when straightend or replaced.

The push rod is adjustable to alter the position of the gear lever, so there really isn't a "correct" position. Adjust it until you get the lever in a position you are happy with and tighten the lock nuts.
