Default Oil behind alternator case on an SRAD.

I'm just patching up my No Budget Cup race bike after our last off.
It went down quite hard on its LHS and broke off the bottom of the alternator cover:

When this happened quite a lot of oil came out of there too.

So a few questions:

1 ) Is there normally oil behind the alternator cover?

2 ) Can oil get to behind the alternator cover if the bike is on its side (laid down)?

3 ) If not either of the above any idea how all the oil got to be there? Or where it came from?

When walking the bike along back to the pits oil only seemed to come out if it was lent over to the left.

Any help on the above is appreciated before I fit the new cover.

Yes, it's inside the engine cases.

If it doesn't there's something wrong.

When you changed the oil last time you poured it in there.

The bottom of that case is slightly higher than the bottom of the sump, the oil level clearly is lower than the bottom of that case - hence only leaking when you lay it over to the left.
