I've done the usual searching of posts but cannot find a definitive answer for the following. Can anyone provide one ? (apologies if I've posted this in the wrong area !)
1. Is it illegal to attach a camera to your bike. 2. If not, can it be used as evidence if it records a traffic accident. Thanks ![]() |

No, yes
Although for point 2, its evidential value is only as good as you

if they pull you for something they can seize the camera as evidence to investigate the offence, but they are not allowed to seize it on the off chance.

Thanks Timwilky - the reason I ask is that I was a foot away from being wasted by a car this morning whilst filtering at about 15mph - a car just turned into the inside lane without indicating - I'm therefore thinking it may be an idea to fix my camera to the bike on all my journeys rather than just for a Sunday rideout.
Custard - I hope that they would seize the memory card rather than the whole camera ! Yikes ! |

You can get cameras now that constantly record, and in the event of an accident it saves the last minute or so. Think it's maybe a bit extreme however. I don't like to think of accidents as inevitable.

Worth putting in the effort to make it very well hidden if it is going to be the loop recording sort.
That way a casual inspection will not find it. I would not want video evidence of a lot of my riding, but you could still have it as useful in case of a crash.

I use a small camcorder strapped to the lower fairing with bungee clips.......cheap and simples but really good quality. If I did have a recording of an accident which I was involved in would I have to make this known to the other driver at the time - or could I "spring it on em" after some editing......! I'm certainly no boy racer - after a fight with a pheasant I'm very much laid back in my riding (which gives me more time to assess what I'm - and others - are doing -which is why I think I managed to get out of being crocked today).

I wonder if they can seize your footage as evidence of anothers "bad" riding ie. group riding that's a little enthuiastic on speed etc.
