Default possibly modifying curvey cam chain tensioners

I am looking into the possibility of modifying my curvey cam chain tensioners to 2003-2004 specification. It looks like Suzuki simply added an auxillary spring, a larger drilled out bolt to locate it in and a larger bolt gasket to suit. Has anyone got a 2003 or 2004 tensionerthey have replaced because it was suspect or faulty. A 1999 to 2002 would be very useful to compare so I don't have to remove one from my bike until I'm ready to do the job. Basically I'm on the scrounge here but would be more than happy to pay the P&P. I'll put a wanted advert in the appropriate section and, of course, if I'm successful the information may be useful to other people on the ORG. Incidentally, 2005 onwards is a complete redesign and won't fit earlier models.

I though that the 03 CCT fit the curvys?

If that's the case surely just upgrading is easier and cheaper.

I may be wrong on this, but it's in my head from somewhere.

Search for it there has been a recent disscussion on it (well June I think)

I thought they changed design entirely actually.

There's not a lot wrong with the early ones, they just rattle a bit.

Ned if its just the rattle, regular oil changes (3-6 months depending upon your mileage) seem to quieten them down (in my experience)

Easier certainly, cheaper unlikely - unless I get very lucky on Ebay! It It will cost me about £10 for the parts to modify my 2001 tensioner to 2003 spec. I just need to check I'm not missing anything.

Yes, K3 and K4 fit the curvy but the design has been modified slightly with the extra spring I mention.

I change my oil and filter regularly already. I'm not alarmed by the amount of noise I'm making (at 37000 miles), but If I can improve it a little I would be pleased (a little bit of perfectionist in me I think).

Chris, the complete re-design appears on the 2005 on models and I'm pretty sure it can't be reto fitted because it appears to have had the flange modified where it bolts to the engine.

that puts its quite differently.
Tensioners can fail/ degrade with age as a mates vx 800 suffered degraded tensioner.
He used a oem part and its fine (just took him 6yr of can't be ar*ed to do it)

Interesting Chris. thanks for the link. If you look closely you can see parts 1 to 6 make assembly 7 which is a 1999 to 2002 tensioner and 8 is a 2003 to 2004 tensioner - note the slightly larger bolt (which is drilled out to locate the extra spring on the inside).

It is not just an extra spring, AFAIK it is a toothed rod and a ratchet pawl rather than a rotary design with thread. Completely different.
