Right guys, can you help me diagnose and fix this problem on my 2001 Fireblade.
Brake light does not come on when front brake pressed, seemed to just stop working (maybe it doesn't like the silver and pink tassles attached to the handlebars). I've only had a very brief look at it last night but the light comes on when the rear brake is pressed so it’s not the light itself. The two connectors going into the back of the switch at the front lever are on properly, I have also swapped them around to see if anyone had been playing silly beggers with it but to no avail, you can hear the switch click as you pull the lever. What can I do in the way of diagnosing this or testing this? Cheers

Take your switch off and clean it.

Those switches don't last forever. About £5-6 from any bike shop

One of the wires could be broken inside the outer sheath. You could try to bypass the existing wires...

Love, I think you have been around long enough (old fogie) to know that this should be in Bikes, talk & issues....tut!
Anyway, how was the Kwak on the way into work? You agree that we can stiffen it up a bit more? ![]() Re the fireblade, have you checked the fuses? |

Won't be fuses if the light works at all, i.e. with the other brake, take the wires off of the front switch and join them, does the brake light come on? If yes then the switch is the problem, remove it, fill with WD40 or similar and operate the switch with your finger a few million times. If the switch still 'clicks' then it very likely hasn't mechanically failed, so the 'switch full of WD and click it a lot' approach often works in cleaning the contacts. If no then the wiring is at fault, check to see if either of the wires is live*, if no then there is a supply problem, if yes then the wire from the front switch to the rear switch/rear light assembly is at fault. Tell me what you find and I'll recommned a method to fix it. HTH you lovely boy! *Make sure the other switch isn't being operated when you do this test, if it is, (meaning the brake light will be lit via the other switch), then the switched side of the front switch will be live too.
