Default Alarmed Disc Locks - Are they worth it?

Well just that really people have made me paranoid about the Husky getting swiped so it it worth investing in one of these devices as opposed to the usual type?

If so which is best?

I got a Xena too. It's very solid and extremely simple to use, no switches to mess with as it's self arming. It is sensitive enough to go off when the bike it moved but mine has never gone off on its own. The only issue I have ever had is getting the battery set for it. They run (or ran if they have changed) off several little watch type batteries and they are very expensive to replace. HeineGerike (sp) used to do the replacement pack for a fraction of the price of buying them independently but they dodn't do them any more. I'll have to renew my online search and find an alternative.

Pound shops sell the batteries if you need to replace them - cost £1 and will last about 6 months.

Latest Xena use a camera type battery, for longer battery life. Mines been running since last xmas and still ok. Think it is a XX14. Recomended

Have a Xena XN14 and its very sturdy and the 110db alarm is suitable loud enough.

I have the xena XN18. Chunky sturdy and heavy piece of kit. You wouldnt wanna ride away with one still attached. The movement sensitive is a nice idea. (not only to deter thieves but remind
the rider )

Mine was a bit dodgy and too sensitive and went off randomly. Turned out i had a faulty inner sensor box thingamajig. Xena sent me a replacement straight away as well as a replacement rubber seal and has been right as rain since.

They do chains and ground anchors that can be used in conjunction with some of thier alarmed disc locks too. The more the merrier.

All disc locks / alarms, alarmed disc locks, brake locks etc. are additional security IMO. Nothing beats a Good chain & lock securing a sensible part of the bike to an immoveable object!

Hi All,

Alarms are only any good if they are going to alert someone to the fact that your machine is being interfered with, and that someone is going to act to protect your property.

In other words, if it's to let you know that your bike's being fiddled with - great. Just don't expect anyone else to step in on your behalf.

That said, the more security you have the more likely that thieves will target a less challenging machine.

Just my experience.

Regards

Rich
