Default Dunlop SportSmart/RoadSmart Front/Rear Combination

Hi,

I had front and rear replacement tyres fitted today on my SV650S and opted for the Dunlop RoadSmart.

This evening I've noticed that they have accidentally fitted a SportSmart to the front, and the RoadSmart I asked for on the back.

Can anyone tell me if it is a problem to run mismatched tyres? If not, should I leave it, or should I go back to the shop and get the RoadSmart on the front?

I only use my SV for commuting so I don't want the tyre to wear out too quickly.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Matt

mismatching tyres isnt a problem, and with a softer front yea it wont last as long, but front tyres normally do last a good while. I normally use 2 rears to 1 front

Great, thanks for the advice. I'm going to stick with them as they're performing better than the tyres I had before - the handling seems to have improved loads.

Mind you, when the last set of tyres where brand new I had only just passed my test and I wasn't as confident on the bike as I am now, 10,000 miles later.

cheers
matt

Just be careful in the wet, most of the time a sticky tyre will not perform as well as a sport-touring tyre wet as they're more optimised for dry, hot use.

Reviews seem to indicate good performance of the sportsmarts in the wet as well.

You volunteering to find out how good?

What is "good" performance? Good performance from a sticky tyre? Good performance for a sport tourer, a full wet? A cut slick?

Good performance from a sticky tyre in the wet is being able to ride to the shops without it spitting you off for fun, good performance from a sport touring tyre is pegs down and 100% predictability.

Plus, water clearing, some treads are designed for the front to clear the water for the back, others that the back does more work on it's own. How do you know which you have, how well it will work? You are test pilot, so just be careful in the wet aye

I wouldn't know as I go into chicken mode in the rain (perhaps I'm in chicken mode all the time :P)

From what I understand the sportsmarts use several technologies to provide more grip and stability and that in turn leaves them room to apply deeper threads that clear more water. Obviously since I don't have the tire, I can't judge for myself and see if it's just marketing bla bla, but most reviews seems to be consistently positive, considering grip and feedback in the wet, just that braking distance in the wet wasn't that great.
