I went to fit my `97 gsxr 750 srad rear shock to my `01 curvy, the rear wheel is already out to allow for cleaning the back end, and the lower dog bone bolt was also removed.
I cut the fuel tank pivot as required, so the top mount fitted fine, the lower mount bolt went in fine, then as i moved the dog bones to bolt that up, the rear shock rubs on the swing arm, the 1st spring coil, and the silver/gold metal collar below the spring, as shown in the pics. ![]() ![]() ive got standard dog bones, is this the problem, do i need slightly longer dog bones to overcome the problem. I read loads of topics regarding fitting the gsxr shock before i attempted fitting, and no one else seemed to have this problem????? Any ideas folks, yorkie chris maybe? Have you got the dogbones bolted in? Any will hit there if the dogbones are not attached.

dogbone was bolted in when first noticed, tried a few times with and without to see what was happening, pic shows it out as that was the time i removed it to see what was happening and took a pic.
cant see anything fitted wrong as shock only fits one way, and shock linkage was never fully removed, just took out lower dog bone bolt and the shock bottom mount bolt. have gone through loads of posts on svrider and others noted the same problem but no cure, and no reason why some curvies are affected with a `97 srad shock and some arent????? |

Bottom bit of your shock looks shorter than my Hagon shock.
Its pretty tight in there, so maybe a few mm makes a difference I'll measure it tomorrow

ok thanks, might pop the standard one in just to see how much clearance there is without the weight of the wheel to see if theres an issue. Will measure the diameter of both shocks too to see how much wider the srad one is than sv.

You tried sliding feeler in to see if it is actually hitting on full extension? You say you tried it... are there wipe marks from it hitting?

If it's only just hitting you could probably put a chamfer on the outside edge of the spring seat to gain some clearance.

unbolted the shock and compared to standard sv shock, spring didnt look noticeably wider, but the length of the gixer seems to be the problem.
Theres defo no room between the spring and the swing arm, no room for even a fag paper. it looks like it needs either slightly longer dog bones or something just shaving down a tad. Mikerj, that would partly solve the problem but the first coil on the spring touches as well. someone at work suggested filling a small amount from the swing arm, but sounds bit iffy to me. Fitted the sv unit, no problems, so know its nothing Ive done, surely im not the only one whose noticed this with a 750 srad unit on a curvy? |
